What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?
For me, Hispanic Heritage Month is about expressing culture and identity. It’s a great time to bond with family, talk to them about your roots, and commit to passing along meaningful traditions for the generations coming up after us. Personally, I love sharing foods and traditions from home, and also learning about how other countries in Latin America celebrate important holidays and family events.
What can I do to support and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month?
There are lots of ways to participate! You can follow Centro on social media, share our Facebook and Instagram posts, encourage friends and family to sign up for our newsletter, donate to the organization, or volunteer your time. This Saturday and Sunday, come out and support the HoLa Festival—it's going to be a blast!
What does the Youth and Family Engagement department have going on right now? So many things! We've just started back with our afterschool kids at 4 area schools, and a bunch of our post-secondary access youth have just had their first couple weeks of college classes! We've got parenting education going, college guidance, leadership development, and family field trips. Also, our Escaleras program is helping plan the Hispanic Heritage Celebration at Fulton High School on September 29th. Students will be participating through dance, singing, and poetry. This is such a busy season and we're so excited!
