Alaska INBRE invites you to join us for a two-day, in-state celebration of INBRE-funded research.  The retreat includes a keynote speaker, poster sessions and an opportunity for collaboration and networking.  The 2023 retreat will take place at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge, Talkeetna, AK September 29 - October 1, 2023.

Responsible Conduct of Research Training


Sept 30, 9am-12:30 pm OR Oct 3, 1-4:30 PM
Responsible Conduct of Research is a required training for undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers supported by NSF and NIH awards. This workshop fulfills the requirements for formal RCR instruction. It is an NIH requirement that all BLaST Mentors, Scholars, UREs, and other funded projects participate in RCR training. 

This training is a two-part training:
  • Part I - Complete an online CITI Training module
  • Part 2 - Participate in RCR training.
  • You must complete both parts to receive your RCR certificate.

Dr. Cana Itchuaqiyak will be leading several workshops on working with Indigenous communities on UAF campus this fall. The workshops are organized and sponsored by the Moving Forward Together program (Transforming Arctic Geosciences for Alaska Native Sovereignty and Science).

Presented by Alaska EPSCoR with special guests Dr. Will White (Oregon State University), Dr. Stephanie Kamel (University of North Carolina Wilmington), co-editors-in-chief of the Journal of Experimental Marine Biology; and Dr. Peter Pertraitis (University of Pennsylvania), retired editor-in-chief. Topics covered will be steps in the publication process, differences in publication models, how to find the right journal, do's and don't for MS prep, how to respond to reviewers effectively, and DEI considerations in publishing. NRMI West Region Workshop 2023 - Oct 24-25, 2023 @ Las Vegas
Registration for the 2023 Network of Minority Health Research investigators (NMRI) West Region  Workshop is now open. Open to underrepresented minority investigators, including post-graduate doctoral students, who are conducting biomedical research. The meeting will include mentorship, poster presentations, and scholarly exchange among field leaders. Participants are encouraged to submit abstracts. Visit the meeting page for more information. Abstract submission deadline is Sept 25, 2023. Limited travel awards are available.

URSA Award Opportunities:  The office of Undergraduate Research & Scholarly Activity (URSA) is UAF's resource for the development and promotion of experiential learning activities that engage undergraduate students to support UAF's goal to become a leading student-focused research university. Apply today for the following  2023 awards: 2023 ITHS Pilot Program Awards: Apply Now  Since 2008, ITHS has offered funding for new clinical and translational research projects or “pilots” to get off the ground. Investigators from across the five-state WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho) region are encouraged to apply.
Maximizing Investigators' Research Award (MIRA) Program for Early Stage Investigators - NIGMS has announced that the Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award (MIRA) notice of funding opportunity for early stage investigators (ESIs) (PAR-23-145) has been reissued. MIRA funding provides support for an area of research in an ESI’s laboratory that falls within the NIGMS mission. The next application due date is October 3, 2023

AIM-AHEAD Call for Proposals
The NIH's Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Consortium to Advance Health Equity and Researcher Diversity (AIM-AHEAD) program has established mutually beneficial, coordinated, and trusted partnerships to enhance the participation and representation of researchers and communities currently underrepresented in the development of AI/ML models and to improve the capabilities of this emerging technology, beginning with electronic health records (EHR) and extending to other diverse data to address health disparities and inequities.
