 Construction Update

Building construction is moving steadily. The south section of the building has completed framing, with flooring underway. North sections are being prepared to connect to the basement and the rest of the building. The goal is to complete foundation and concrete pours throughout, and to complete frost protection measures before winter weather begins to set in.

Another focus this month has been to complete civil servicing connections, which our Whistlebend neighbours have likely noticed over the past couple of weeks. A big thank you to those who have been impacted by the temporary road closures along Casca and Eldorado – we appreciate your patience!

You can watch the drone footage of the site which shows the progress of construction from September 2023.

Streamlining Construction Excellence: Walker Home Construction’s Prefab Truss Plant

Members of the project team recently visited the Walker Home Construction Pre-fab Truss Plant located in the Takhini River Subdivision just North of Whitehorse, Yukon.

The truss plant was built in 2019 and helps optimize the workforce and streamline construction of the Family Preservation Wellness Centre. With a team of 6 dedicated workers, the plant ensures that everyone is working efficiently and effectively. This strategic allocation of resources translates to faster project completion, reduced labor costs, and an overall boost in productivity.

An advantage of having a prefab truss plant is the reduction of on-site congestion. Construction sites can be quite busy with activity, but with trusses being manufactured off-site, there is less clutter and smoother operations. This translates to a safer and more organized work environment.

Quality control on a construction site is important for a variety of factors. Walker Home Construction’s Truss Plant offers an unparalleled level of quality assurance. Each truss is carefully crafted, adhering to exact specifications. Consistency in production of these trusses not only enhances the overall look and feel of the Centre, but also bolsters structural integrity.

Manufacturing trusses off-site spares construction workers from dealing with weather related fatigue and health risks. Additionally, fewer on-site activities means a reduction in the number of workplace related accidents.

Walker Home Construction Truss Plant is a perfect example of how forward-thinking approaches can elevate construction practices. We applaud the commitment of Walker Home Construction to excellence, safety, and well-being.

Celebrating Justien Senoa Wood: Artistry, Ancestry, and Family

We are privileged to introduce you to gifted artist Justien Senoa Wood. Justien is a multi-disciplinary artist and proud member of the Na-Cho Nyak Dun First Nation whose art resonates with her profound connection to the land, her rich ancestry, and above all, her cherished family.

Justien’s art is a beautiful fusion of contemporary creativity interwoven with the vivid tapestry of her Northern Tutchone/ Dene heritage. Her creations invite us on a journey through time, where Indigenous culture is unveiled through a modern artistic lens.

One of Justien’s recent endeavors holds a special place with CYFN. She was chosen to create a design that will be featured on the entry door panels to the Family Preservation Wellness Centre—Justien’s design is a testament to her immense talent, commitment, skill, and dedication. The design captures the essence of the Centre’s mission as it embodies the spirit of nurturing family bonds within the community.

A sneak peek rendering of the door panels that will soon welcome all who enter the Family Preservation Wellness Centre.
