DUT CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE TO CELEBRATE 10TH ANNIVERSARY
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Confucius Institute (CI), in partnership with Fujian Foreign Affairs Office, will be hosting DUT CI’s 10th anniversary in Durban on Tuesday, 19 September 2023. The celebration will also include a signing ceremony between DUT and the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) at the Coastlands Musgrave Hotel on Monday afternoon. FAFU is DUT’s sister university in Fuzhou, China.
The DUT Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Thandwa Mthembu will be hosting a senior Chinese delegation, which will be led by the Governor of Fujian Province, His Excellency Mr ZHAO Long, and includes the Chairman of FAFU, Prof WANG Jiannan, together with other senior officials from Fujian Province who will be accompanied by the Chinese Consul-General in Durban, His Excellency Mr LI Zhigong.
FORMER MISS DUT, ZABELO HLABISA CROWNED MISS EARTH SOUTH AFRICA 2023
A former Miss Durban University of Technology (DUT), Zabelo Hlabisa, was crowned Miss Earth South Africa at the Southern Sun Sandton hotel in Johannesburg on Saturday, 09 September 2023.
The 2018 Miss DUT, who is also pursuing her Master’s degree in Management Sciences at DUT, impressed the judges and the audience with her passion for taking care of the environment and its people.
The 2023 Miss Earth South Africa pageant was bigger and better as it celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. This prestigious event featured esteemed judges, Zizo Tshwete, JJ Tabane, Abigail Visagie and Leanne Manas.
DEPARTMENT OF FOOD AND NUTRITION LAUNCHES A MOUTHWATERING COMPLEATING ZERO WASTE COOKBOOK AND GUIDE AT DUT
The Department of Food and Nutrition at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) proudly hosted a book launch on Friday, 08 September 2023, at the Rendezvous Restaurant on the Steve Biko Campus. The event celebrated the launch of the eagerly awaited “Compleating Zero Waste Cookbook and Guide.”
Head of Department at the Department of Food and Nutrition, Dr Heleen Grobbelaar, welcomed the guests to the launch of Compleating-“Complete Eating”, a book that not only informs but also inspires people to embark on a journey towards a more sustainable way of eating and living.
A Durban University of Technology (DUT) Student Services Summit 2023 took place at the Riverside Conference Centre on Thursday, 7 September 2023. The theme of the event was “Adaptive Graduates why are we legitimizing?”
The programme was convened and moderated by Dr Clement Moreku (Dean of Students) and Dr Mzwandile Khumalo (Siyaphumela Institutional lead and Teaching, Learning and Development Practitioner) respectively.
In attendance at the summit were the Institutional Registrar, Dr Maditsane Nkonoane, Dean of Students from Unizulu, Dr T Ncokazi, Assistant Registrar: Academic Data and Student Records, Ms Bongiwe Mnyandu.
INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION AND PARTNERSHIPS HONOURS 2023 ABE BAILEY TRAVEL BURSARY WINNER WITH A CELEBRATORY TEA
Ms Marizel Hendriks, the DUT winner of the 2023 Abe Bailey Travel Bursary was honoured at a Celebratory Tea hosted by the International Education and Partnerships unit at DUT. The Celebratory Tea was held at Council Chambers, ML Sultan Campus on Thursday, 7 September 2023.
The Abe Bailey Travel Bursary is awarded to outstanding students who have shown exceptional leadership qualities and strong service ethics. Hendriks is currently studying towards the Master’s Degree in Health Sciences: Homeopathy.
Durban University of Technology (DUT) approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Waheeda Peters spoke to Mrs Lorna McCullough, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Applied Management at DUT Midlands campus.
Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?
A: “I am a senior lecturer in the Department of Applied Management on the Riverside Campus, and a passionate supporter of ENVISION2030.”
