Staff highlight: Jennifer Butler
Meet Jennifer Butler, our lead coordinator for school nutrition programs like the National School Lunch & Breakfast Programs, the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, the Afterschool Snack Program and more! Jennifer has been in this role for nearly nine years, providing training and technical assistance to school districts as they administer federally-funded meal services for Idaho students. A graduate of Boise High School, Jennifer earned a bachelor's in elementary education from Idaho State University before joining the Peace Corps to teach both adults and children in the Federated States of Micronesia. Upon returning to the U.S., Jennifer managed a housing complex for miners on the job in Montana and taught grades 6-8 in Las Vegas before then moving to Boise. She worked for the City of Boise as an investigative analyst conducting oversight of the police department for twelve years. For three of those years, she also taught reading to English language learners at the College of Western Idaho after earning her master’s degree in Literacy from Boise State University.
Jennifer was excited to join the SDE because she loves being involved in education and getting out into schools around the state. She wants to make sure school nutrition is never taken for granted. Proper nutrition keeps students fueled for learning and meal times at school offer an important opportunity to socialize. Jennifer wants school nutrition professionals to know they make a difference!
