MAGA Chooses Cultural War Over National Security
300 Military Promotions Blocked
MAGA Senator Tuberville is blocking roughly 300 top military promotions as he puts the MAGA cultural wars above national security. This is one more example of the poor judgment we can expect from the MAGA movement which hurts national security, denies climate change, and wages cultural war to distract citizens from important issues.
Personnel are Disrupted and Military Readiness Weakened
Blocking the promotions disrupts the lives of personnel and their families. It also adversely affects military readiness. It paralyzes the military because vacancies are filled with temporary appointees who can’t actualize planning. The New York Times reports, “…acting officials are transition figures — like substitute teachers in grade school. They cannot hire people to staff their new positions. They cannot move into the quarters that come with the job. They cannot impose any long-term vision on the military.”
It’s a Culture War Issue although More is Involved
Tuberville claims he is blocking the promotions to force the Pentagon to change its position on abortion. Perhaps there is some truth in that, but we have a more clear-eyed view. He is likely blocking the promotions in the anticipation that a MAGA candidate will be elected president so the slots can be filled with boot lickers instead of professional personnel.
This is exactly the strategy used by MAGA to deny President Obama a Supreme Court nominee and consistent with goals of MAGA’s Project 2025 to replace the merit based professional federal civil servants with toadies.
Peter D. Feaver, a professor at Duke University who has studied the armed forces, said that U.S. troops “…are the noncombatants in the culture war, and they’re getting slaughtered.”
MAGA Florida Politicians go along with Tuberville
Don’t expect MAGA politicians to pressure Tuberville to end the blocks. MAGA Senators Scott, Rubio, and Governor DeSantis are all aboard with him. MAGA cannot be trusted with our national security. For them, MAGA power comes first.
Take Action:
As veterans we have a duty to speak out against threats to national security. Those of you who belong to other veterans’ groups, inform your group about Tuberville’s blocks. Have the group contact Rubio and Scott and ask them to demand that Tuberville end his blocks to military promotions now.
