Have you had a chance to check out what’s happening at this year’s MichMATYC Annual conference? If not, here’s a snapshot.
Friday Workshop: Victor Piercey, who is also our keynote speaker, will lead us through strategies for building interdisciplinary connections at our institutions.
Saturday:
- Ann Davis and Paul Zachlin will share about an OER text for linear algebra.
- Discussing diversity in higher education with students can often be a delicate matter. James Garner will engage participants in conversation on ways to approach the topic in an open and respectful manner that can encourage dialogue and trust.
- Julie Gunkelman will share some effective techniques on how to teach our students how to learn.
- Kristi Laird and Todd Butler will discuss how faculty, administrators, and staff at Jackson College work together to create and maintain their co-requisite program for mathematics.
- Mike LaFratta’s session will be about classroom demonstrations of entertaining real world examples associated with mathematics concepts from Algebra, Geometry, Trig, and Technical Math.
- Jamie Shepherd will share with us about an early implementation of Victor Piercy’s fishbowl technique to engage with other departments at Jackson College.
- Alana Tuckey will offer a variety of techniques for building community and accountability in online statistics courses, as well statistics sources and data sets for ways to engage students in course content, diversity, equity, and inclusion topics.
- Following Stephen Chrisomalis's post lunch talk on Saturday on the history of number systems, we will have an opportunity to play some games, and create our own number systems
Please don’t forget that the early registration conference rate of $50 ends today, September 15. It goes up to $65 starting September 16.
