Coco Joy!

Dear Reader,

If you are a tennis enthusiast, like myself, you probably also watched the US Open Women's Finals yesterday.

In this game Coco Gauff, the American teenager, beat very convincingly ,the world number one to claim the title.

Before the game, Coco was interviewed, and they were asking her what the change was in her, in the last few months, where she really stepped up in her ability to play better.

Her answer was that it was really a mindset change for herself.

She started asking herself things, like 'how privileged can one become, how grateful can we be for where we are?

She said the real, true heroes out there are people who are surviving; they're fighting every day for food on the table for their families, or where the money will come from for their next bills, how to pay those bills. Those are the true heroes, and she considered herself privileged and blessed.

Working from a place of gratitude and joy, because she's got all these privileges: to play the sport she loves, to do well at it and to actually make a living at it. That was her attitude going into the game.

When she won, and after the game, the interviewer asked her a little bit more. They mentioned that they saw her praying before the game and also celebrating afterwards. They asked her, did she pray in the beginning to win the game?

Coco answered, "No, all I prayed to God was that I'd play to the best of my abilities, that I'll step up, that I'll bring joy and I'll bring glory to His name, and to tennis, and everyone else, and everyone involved, and just to step up and be better. Afterwards it was just a prayer of thanksgiving. It wasn't a victory prayer."

This me made me think, how often are we caught in our own circumstance? How often do we think this is the end of the world, or this is terrible?

If we compare ourselves to others, and how blessed and how privileged we are in any situation, I think we can learn a lot from this young teenager. She's playing better and better. The joy just keeps coming and I want to be on her team.

Fantastic, the joy team. Have a great week and we'll speak again next week.
