Ontario doubling career fairs to help more young people enter skilled tradesThe Ontario government is expanding its successful skilled trades career fairs, now in its second year, to even more cities with more exhibitors and twice as many participating students. Ontario will need over 100,000 new skilled trades workers this decade to help build the province, making it crucial for more young people to have the opportunity to unlock their potential in the trades. Ontario investing an additional $160 million to train workersThe Ontario government is investing an additional $160 million in the Skills Development Fund (SDF) to tackle the labour shortage and help at least 100,000 workers get free training to meet the needs of employers hiring in their communities. The funding will prioritize programs that propose innovative training solutions to help people on social assistance and with prior criminal records find meaningful employment in critical industries like healthcare, auto-manufacturing, information technology, hospitality and the skilled trades. Internationally trained and out-of-province skilled workers: Share your feedbackOntario is tackling the labour shortage with a continued focus on attracting internationally trained and out-of-province skilled workers by removing barriers to credential recognition in the province. The ministry is launched a survey last month to help the government to better understand challenges in the registration process and supports that would help people get registered in regulated professions and skilled trades.
