ShelterBox
Vast amounts of floodwater have caused widespread destruction in eastern Libya with up to 20,000 people feared to have died, thousands are still missing and over 30,000 people have been left homeless.
The scale and severity of this disaster is hard to comprehend. Those made homeless are sheltering together in school buildings, where they need blankets, mattresses, and solar lights. Many areas remain inaccessible because of significant damage to the road network, buildings, electricity, and communication lines.
The ShelterBox team is speaking with aid organisations already working in Libya with access to the worst hit areas to see how they can help.
Whilst assessments in Libya are carried out, ShelterBox continues to move forward with their response planning in Morocco. They have arrived in Marrakesh and have met with Rotary contacts and local organisations, with more team members ready to join them in the next few days.
