E-BULLETIN: BRUCE TRAIL DAY 2023

Celebrate Bruce Trail Day on October 1! Welcoming Hikes Geared to Beginners
If you know someone who is new to hiking and they have always wanted to explore more of the great outdoors, the Toronto Bruce Trail Club is offering four hikes on Sunday October 1. They are especially geared to beginners.

The theme for the day is ‘belonging for all.’ “These hikes are designed for those new to hiking, and new to the Bruce Trail, who might want to learn more. We want everyone, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, physical limitation, or age, to feel welcome as they connect to nature and our hiker community,” says Toronto Bruce Trail Club president David Royle.

Event Coordinator Juliet Williams adds. “We have put a new emphasis on urban Toronto, the multicultural capital of Canada, where we can make hikes more easily accessible, by transit, for many more people. Our hike leaders will take special care to ‘make you feel welcome,’ and talk about how we want to build an inclusive hiking community. Our message is, Nature is for all and all are welcome.”

Existing club members are also welcome to sign up. Why not share your love of the outdoors and invite a friend or neighbour to come along with you!

Two hikes—one starting from Mississauga and the another starting in Limehouse — are already filled. Don’t worry, there is also a bus hike leaving from Toronto that has seats available. Veteran hike leader Peter Leeney starts his hike from Scotsdale Farm and the group will end in Limehouse for snacks and refreshments. And, Hike Director Tom Swales is leading a Toronto urban hike for those who want to stay in the city. It’s accessible by Toronto transit. (See below for registration details.)

The club will also be hosting a drop-in centre full of information displays and refreshments at the Limehouse Memorial Hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please visit the booth and talk to our representatives and learn more about our biodiversity efforts, trail maintenance, landowner relations and volunteering opportunities. Limehouse Memorial Hall is located at 12389 Fifth Line (corner of Fifth Line and 22 Side Rd), Limehouse, ON.  Click here for a Google map.

Bruce Trail Day is also a great opportunity to capture a photo on the trail for the “Moments of Wonder on the Bruce Trail” photo contest.

From September 1 through October 15, the Bruce Trail Conservancy invites photo submissions of the places, people, wildlife and nature of the Bruce Trail that makes you feel a sense of awe. Prizes this year include gear from Arc’teryx . Learn more: brucetrail.org/photocontest.
