Recycling during move in
Move-in Recycling Impact

The results are in! This year, we had 157 recycling volunteers provide hands-on sorting in more than 300 recycling shifts across our residence halls during move in. Their collective effort helped divert 51,840 lbs. of of material from entering the landfill! That’s equivalent to more than 1,000 bulldogs or two blue whales—if you’re keeping track. A huge thank you to all the staff, volunteers, campus and community partners that helped make this huge landfill diversion initiative possible!

To keep the recycling momentum going this semester, our department—in partnership with UGA’s Office of Sustainability—has launched the Commit to the Bin competition. Digital screens updated each Tuesday show which halls are in the lead with the most residents who have committed to keeping recyclable materials out of the landfill!
Lipscomb lobby

Biggest Summer Ever?

Summer 2023 was epic in terms of the number and scope of facilities projects completed. Not only did Lipscomb and Mell halls get modernized and optimized community bathrooms and lobby spaces, but several other projects were completed to improve the student experience and keep University Housing comfortable, secure and affordable! Some summer projects included:
  • New and improved Lipscomb Hall lobby (see picture above)
  • New fan coil units, flooring and furniture in Morris Hall
  • Improvements to the RPS suite in Creswell
  • Hot water system improvements in O-House and Reed
  • New flooring and furniture in UV East
  • Continued renovation of Soule Hall
  • Continuation of security camera installation
  • Painting of Creswell built-in furniture
  • Dehumidification project in University Village
What is the UGA Mentor Program?

The UGA Mentor Program, the University's first comprehensive mentorship initiative, is a digital platform which allows students to form mentoring relationships and/or schedule 15-30 minute Quick Chats (formerly known as informational interviews) with UGA Mentors (faculty, staff, and alumni), regardless of geographic location, who can help make their future a little clearer.

Mentorship is proven to help students succeed in their personal, academic, and professional endeavors. With our busy schedules, it can be hard to know where to start, but just 1-2 hours a month can change the trajectory of a students life.
Our personalized mentoring experience allows you to connect with students no matter your location and on your schedule.  If you’re not sure where to start, there are guidelinesicebreakers, and other resources on this site to guide you along the way.

Julianna Russ
Making Headlines
Former University Housing Video Producer Julianna Russ will use the skills she gained as a housing student worker participating in Reporters without Borders through the Voyager Scholarship. Julianna plans to use her scholarship money to research media censorship and its relationship to state violence.

Julianna is one of 100 students chosen across the nation to receive the scholarship, which awards up to $50,000 in financial aid, a $10,000 stipend and free Airbnb housing for a meaningful summer work-travel experience between her junior and senior year of college.

In her tenure as a housing video producer, Julianna created the Working Like a Dawg series on YouTube, which explores our residents’ on-campus jobs.

Read more about Julianna’s accomplishment in UGA Today! Congratulations, Julianna!
Myers Hall display

Making History
If you’re near Myers Hall, make sure to check out the updated display dedicated to the building’s most famous resident, Charlayne Hunter-Gault. Since the original display’s installation nearly 20 years ago, Hunter-Gault has continued to make history—adding to her legacy as one of UGA’s first Black students (along with Hamilton Holmes) and as an award-winning journalist and writer.
