Help Us Bring the OLLI "Bring a Book, Take a Book" Library back to Life!
We are thrilled to announce the relaunch of the OLLI "Bring a Book, Take a Book" Library, a community-driven project aimed at creating a space where members can freely exchange and explore books related to our diverse range of interests. This library will be a hub for knowledge-sharing, a place to discover new ideas, and an opportunity to connect with fellow members through the power of literature.

But to bring this exciting project to life, we need volunteers like you! How Can You Help?
Help reorganize the books currently on the shelves, rotate and donate elsewhere if needed.  We will be replacing the bookshelf with more accommodating space for this OLLI space.  We already have book donations coming in, so if you have gently used books of interest you would like to donate, we will be needing those soon, after we get these sorted.  Please contact OLLI Program Manager, Stephanie Tarpley at starple@emory.edu, if you are interested in helping us.  We will also need help with assembling the bookcases once they come in.

This library is a benefit of your OLLI Membership.

The History of the American Common Law System
Instructor: Roy Sobelson
Wed, Oct 04, 2023 to Nov 15, 2023  - 11:15AM - 12:45PM
Join us on this captivating exploration of the American legal system. Enroll now and become a part of the legacy that shapes our nation's laws and liberties!

The United States is one of only about 40 countries with a “common law” legal tradition. About 10 of the 40 are major first world countries with long ties to Great Britain. Most other countries have what is known as a “civil law” tradition, which is quite different. This course will first examine the origins of the civil law tradition and how it “evolved” into the English common law. We’ll then see how our common law has developed and continues to develop, and how many modern rights, privileges, immunities, claims and defenses have come to be and still affect us. We will also focus on some current legal battles to see how they arose and how they will be sorted out through public court opinions and precedent. Secure your spot today.

Adult children get squeezed in the “sandwich generation” of simultaneously caring for their own kids and aging parents. Feeling a sense of control over this specific set of issues requires the proper mindset, one that allows you to reframe challenges as opportunities.

In this series of moderated discussions. each with time for Q&A, a range of subject matter experts will discuss positive ways of addressing some of the challenges life presents for the 40 to 60-something set.

Course Evaluations
Completing course evaluations at OLLI is essential for maintaining and enhancing the quality of education, ensuring student satisfaction, and driving continuous improvement in our program and services. It is a collaborative effort between students, instructors, curriculum committee and staff to create a better learning experience for all participants. However, our return rate of students completing these has become very low. Please help us by completing these in your email once a course is completed. Think of it as your last step in finalizing your course.
