Upcoming Seminar Series

We are excited to announce the LTER Visual Media Webinar Series, a unique opportunity to explore the art of scientific communication through captivating visuals. The event is a three-part webinar series featuring experts in science communication using visual media.

On October 6, 2023 at 11am PT/1pm ET, we welcome Jen Christiansen as our first speaker. With a career spanning over a decade as a graphics editor at Scientific American and author of Building Science Graphics, Jen brings a wealth of knowledge in scientific illustration, data visualization, and science-art communication.

The 1 hour talk is followed by a 30 minutes Show & Tell session where the LTER community can showcase their work, ask questions, and receive personal feedback from a true expert in the field.

Social Media of the Month

Follow the LTER on BlueSky!

Another social media site? Yeah…but this one has promise.

Bluesky (bsky.app) is an emerging Twitter/X alternative gaining traction, particularly around science. Of course, the network is still growing, but science folks are showing up and interacting here.

Bluesky is in beta, so you need a code to join at the moment. But, it seems this might change any given day, and plenty of folks are already online. If you’re interested in a code, check out this form—it’s specifically geared towards getting scientists on the platform.

If you’re looking for a primer on Bluesky, or curious how it differs from other platforms, see the excellent Bluesky Primer for Scientists by Steve Haroz and Mark Rubin.

And of course, give us a follow at bsky.app/profile/uslter.bsky.social. See you on the platform!

Our other accounts are, of course, active! Remember to tag us at @USLTER for retweets and possible features! And, give @lter_community a follow on Instagram. Or, check out our new Mastodon page: https://ecoevo.social/@USLTER.
