Held on the third Friday of each month, Conversations with Art is a free and enjoyable discussion led by Artspace staff as we look at works on show and images from gallery and museum collections.
Whether you’re an artist, an art and language lover, beginner, or expert, we’d love you to join us.
It’s an inclusive, thought provoking and satisfying way to spend an afternoon!

Book of the Month
Diary box II by award winning artist Glen Skien

On a scheduled Saturday of each month, one of our trained presenters will set up a table from 10.30am until 11.30am in the Foyer Gallery.
This is an opportunity for visitors who wish to view the selected Artist Book of the Month.
You can simply ask to see the book page by page, or delve into a shared chat about the artist, techniques and possible concepts.

Public Art Walk - New Mural Unveiling!
A free afternoon guided walk exploring Mackay’s public art.
Friday, October 6, 4.30pm
Departing from the Fishbones, Bluewater Quay
Hosted by Artspace Mackay Public Art Officer, Jennifer Dalton-Smith, this free riverside art walk for all ages begins at Fish Bones, Blue Water Quay and takes you along the river. Along the way, participants will learn about Mackay’s iconic public art installations, and the local, and internationally acclaimed artists who created them. Participants will be first to see the newest additions to Mackay's street art collection and for one afternoon only, will have the chance to talk to the artist who created them.

Kara Day in conversation with Tracey Heathwood

Mixed media artist Kara Day talks to Gallery Director Tracey Heathwood about her latest exhibition, Ladylike – a major body of new work and her first solo show in Artspace Mackay’s Foundation Gallery.
Ladylike sees Day working across textile, sculpture and watercolour to interrogate feminine stereotypes.
She creates bold portraits that confront the viewer and prompt consideration of societal typecasts of womanhood and femininity.

Workshop
Fabulous fabric portraits with Kara Day!
Saturday, October 14, 10am to 2pm
$30 per person
Mixed media artist Kara Day will show you how to make fabulous colourful portraits out of fabric in this enjoyable workshop coinciding with her latest exhibition Ladylike.
Prior to the workshop, participants will send in a photo of the person they’d like to feature in their portrait (it might even be a self-portrait!.
We’ll prepare the photo as a print in greyscale to make it easier on the day, and Kara will teach participants to use special drawing, colour, cutting and adhesive techniques to render their portrait in fabulous fabric!
