Dear <<First Name>>,

Deer Lake's annual Summer Movie Night event last Saturday night was super exciting, and I can't wait for next year's event!

I am thrilled to have connected with so many people who came out to enjoy a fantastic screening of Disney's "Turning Red" at the Tian-Jin Temple.

Big thanks to our amazing community partners: Tian-Jin Temple for providing the venue and delicious food for our volunteers, 637 Arrow Squadron Air Cadets for their outstanding work as volunteers and wonderful band performance, and Home of Canadian TCM Society for offering the always-popular free Chinese medicine consultation sessions.

One of the highlights of the event was Anna Fang, an erhu prodigy, who mesmerized everyone with her virtuosic performance of "Flight of the Bumblebee." Additionally, Ryan Erwin, a local magician, brought his magical talents and infectious smiles to the crowd.

I'm delighted to share that we managed to raise enough food donations to support a month's worth of supplies for the Community Fridge Program at the Temple! burnabypcn.ca/fridge

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event a great success!

I joined forces with my MLA colleagues in celebrating Labour Day at Edmonds Park this year organized by the New Westminster & District Labour Council and thanking all the hardworking Canadians in Canada who drive our nation forward toward an even brighter future. Together we will honor the contributions of our labor force from different sectors and thank them for their tireless efforts.

Beyond that, we would like to emphasize the importance of fair wages, safe working conditions, and workers' rights!
Here are some things I'd like to share with you from the past week:

People with injuries, disabilities supported getting back to work

In celebration of B.C. Disability Employment Month, people with disabilities or recovering from a physical injury or mental-health challenge will receive extra help in their recovery and safe return to work thanks to $4 million in funding to the National Institute of Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR).

An inclusive B.C. means all British Columbians receive employment support if needed to find meaningful work.

This funding for NIDMAR supports employers in establishing and sustaining workplaces that are barrier-free, thus ensuring all British Columbians can be part of our workforce.

B.C. communities can apply for new Foundry centres to support young people

More young people in British Columbia will soon have access to vital mental-health and substance-use supports as communities can now submit applications to bring a Foundry centre to their area.

Every young person in British Columbia needs access to health-care services that meets their unique needs, regardless of their location.

Expanding the Foundry network will make it easier for young people and their families to get the help they need, right in their own community.

Young people with mental-health challenges get more support

The province is investing $3 million over the next three years to support the continued delivery of YMCA’s Y Mind and Mind Medicine programs in 30 communities across B.C.

This will help teens and young adults struggling with stress and anxiety access mental wellness training program that will support them on their journey to well-being.

We know that more young people are reaching out for help with mental-health challenges and this program helps provide the tools they need to not only cope, but to thrive.

More communities can access active transportation grants

Indigenous and local governments seeking to advance infrastructure and planning projects that support healthy communities and cleaner travel can now submit their applications to the B.C. Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants program, which opened Sept. 1, 2023.

Whether it’s building a new multi-use trail, installing better bike parking, or establishing active transportation network plans using our design guide, these projects improve quality of life for people and the livability of our neighbourhoods.

Through the program, the province partners with Indigenous, local and regional governments to make cost-sharing investments of as much as $500,000 in eligible infrastructure projects.
