Jerusalem and the Middle East

Donations to the Jerusalem and the Middle East Lenten Project for 2012 will be split evenly between the Ras Morbat Clinic and Creating a Future for Children in Egypt.

Ras Morbat Clinic in Aden, Yemen

Ras Morbat Clinic in Aden, YemenFunds raised for the Ras Morbat Clinic will assist with the ongoing running costs of the Clinic as it provides healthcare in Aden for those who cannot afford it.

Yemen is an unstable country and the main risk facing the clinic is that it will no longer be safe for foreigners to remain in the country. Over recent years the clinic has invested in local staff so that all day-to-day activities could continue without the presence of foreign staff. Photo: The Ras Morbat Clinic, Aden.

Give Thanks for Christ Church in Aden for responding to the communities needs and opening the Ras Morbat Clinic in 2006.

Creating a Future for Children in Egypt

A nursery by the Diocese of EgyptThis project will equip a new nursery. It will open in Suez and will help disadvantaged families by providing good care and education for their children before they begin primary school. This nursery and several others are run by EpiscoCare, the development arm of the Episcopal / Anglican Diocese of Egypt with North Africa and the Horn of Africa.

Parents’ meetings are held for parents to share their experiences of having children and to express their worries and concerns. EpiscoCare tries to foster an honest and free environment where parents can share and grow in their knowledge of how to raise happy and healthy children. This is supported by seminars and workshops for parents on the topic of children’s rights, to encourage a culture of parents respecting their children.  Photo: A nursery that has been opened by the Diocese of Egypt.

Pray For mothers and fathers around the world; that they will nurture their children to become the best they can be.

Landless People in Polynesia

Donations to the Landless People Lenten Project for 2012 will be split between Nadawa and Namara.

Current Namara settlement. For most of us living in New Zealand having a place to call home, whether it is owned or rented, is something we take for granted. The Melanesian Landless people in Fiji have lived with the threat of eviction for generations. Also their lack of legal status in Fiji means that as a group they have very few rights. This uncertainty has undermined their ability to make a life for themselves and their families. As we approach 150 years since the arrival of the first Melanesian labourers to Fiji, each generation faces a harder struggle to achieve the basic human right of security of shelter. Photo: The current Namara squatters settlement.

Please Pray that those living in Nadawa and Namara settlement communities will be encouraged by the work of the church, both in Polynesia and New Zealand, and that they can look to the future with renewed hope.

Unite

Donations to the Unite Lenten Project for 2012 will be used to support all of the NZCMS Mission Partners. You can support a particular Mission Partner on a regular basis by contacting Tessa at Anglican Missions.

RosieUnite is about connecting our Church and its Mission Partners. Our Church through the NZ Church Missionary Society and Anglican Missions supports over 40 Mission Partners around the world in fields such as health, education, evangelism & bible translation, and we’ve been doing that for many years. In the last 10 months we’ve seen unprecedented growth of people in our church exploring the call to Overseas Mission.

Rosie

Rosie is currently working alongside an Egyptian colleague as a Development Officer with the Diocese of Egypt. As part of her role Rosie works with different organisations that are doing development work or specific projects within the Diocese. Without her help, we wouldn't have our two projects for the Jerusalem and Middle East section of the appeal. Photo above: Rosie.

Iri and Kate

Iri and KateIri and Kate were challenged when they heard Bishop Mdimi Mhogolo from Tanzania speak in 2003. Two years later Iri and Kate left for Tanzania where, after completing three months of Swahili language study they worked at Msalato Theological College. Having finished in Tanzania, Iri and Kate will serve in Ethiopia from late February 2012. They will be using their skills and experience to serve in an area where the Anglican Church has set up churches and a community teaching centre.

Please pray for Rosie and the work she is doing with the Diocese of Egypt and give thanks for the stories she shares about the work of the Dicoese. Also Pray For Iri and Kate as they being working in Ethiopia.
