March Update

Grace and peace to you from the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! We're eager to send you our latest update to let you know how the Lord is working through your prayers. We feel your prayers for us. But first let us thank you for your continued partnership with us in Bible translation. Thank you!
Sledding in Winter, Daisies in Spring
Sledding in winter, daisy chains in spring
The two months since our last update have been filled with language learning, le français. The best part is that we feel that we are improving. Our French school recently administered a practice fluency test and both of our results show that we are improving and even better that we're right on track to head to Cameroon in January. Each month we've each been able to move up a group at school, too. We recently started meeting with a kind Christian lady who has volunteered her time and patience to give us conversation practice. She's very patient indeed! We're actively seeking more conversation opportunities and were recently contacted by two French business students who are interested in doing a language exchange-they'll speak French with us, and we'll speak English with them. We hope to start meeting with them soon.
We ask that you would please pray for our continued progress in language learning. We have encouraging moments of triumph such as engaging in a comprehensible phone conversation or when Emily recently befriended a widow who lives down the street. Even so, we continue to make embarrassing mistakes as is expected. Luckily, most people don't seem to mind as long as they can work out what we're trying to say. Please pray that we would stay encouraged through times of triumph and times of "oh dear, I said that!?" (We would tell you about a particular incident, but it was bad enough the first time that it's best not repeated. Suffice to say something Song of Solomon-esque was uttered!)

Henry in the grass, Poppy having her first cup of tea
Two weeks ago Poppy began attending preschool. She goes in the morning for a couple of hours. Bless her heart, she came home one day to say in her sweet little British accent, "I can't talk to them." This week though her teacher told us that she is beginning to speak more and more French. It won't be long before she speaks better than we do! Each day on the walk home she requests lunch from Chick-fil-a. Oh, how we wish that were an option! Henry, who turned six months old this month, has been working hard at popping out his first tooth. We think he may have even been talking to our neighbor Patrick about it as the last time we talked with him he said he could hear Henry crying at night and guessed that he was teething.

Name that Dish

We want to have a little contest. Last night for dinner Drew made a French recipe of which it's said that Henry IV wished that the French could have it at least once a week. The first three people to respond naming this dish will win something special (and edible).

Travel Plans

Next Friday, April 6, we're driving to England with Emily's parents for Emily's sister's wedding. We're staying for the week and hope to spend lots of time with the Epping Forest Community Church family, introducing everybody to Henry. Six am ferry here we come!
