Coexist? The question of (in)tolerance with Ravi Zacharias Coexist
Internationally-known Christian apologist, speaker and author Ravi Zacharias will be at Littlejohn Coliseum at Clemson University 7 - 9:30 p.m. this Thursday, March 8. This is a free event, but general admission tickets are needed. Southern Wesleyan University is the venue sponsor for this event, and will be giving away an iPad2 as part of the pre-event program. Okipe benefit concert at Southern Wesleyan UniversityOkipe
David Wimbish and the Collection are coming to Southern Wesleyan University in a concert to help Haitian children realize the dream of a better home. The concert starts at 8 p.m. this Friday, March 9 in Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center on the university’s campus in Central. Southern Wesleyan recognizes First Sun Management
Southern Wesleyan University recognized M. Joe Turner, CEO of First Sun Management in Clemson, with a Certificate of Partnership for his support of the university and his value as a community partner Feb. 29. Southern Wesleyan University President Dr. Todd Voss, right, presented the certificate to Turner, center. At left is Rev. Jim Wiggins, Southern Wesleyan’s vice president for development.





SWU grad, husband, changing community one step at a time
Katie (Holcombe) Kirkpatrick, a 2006 SWU alumna, and her husband Tim minister to residents of St. Martinville, Louisiana’s second poorest city, through a community center they established in 2007. Since then, the center’s focus has moved from providing food and healthcare to focusing on its youth programs, including after-school and job readiness programs. Katie and Tim are also turning their century-old Victorian home into a children’s home. Read more>>


Calligraphy
Students in Dr. Ben Xie's CHIN 1013 class practice Asian Calligraphy, creating characters known as the “Four Treasures of the Study” in China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and other Asian countries. They learned how to create Chinese characters, using traditional tools of the brush pen, ink and inkstone. The Chinese characters they were writing mean "American people" or "Americans."

WizardSouthern Wesleyan University will present a student production of L. Frank Baum’s classic children’s tale, “The Wizard of Oz,” March 16,17, 23 and 24. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 16-17, and 23; and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. March 24 at the Folger Fine Arts Auditorium on Southern Wesleyan’s campus in Central. Admission for adults is $10; for a non-SWU students or senior citizens, $7; and children under 12, $5. Admission is free for SWU students. Call (864) 644-5191 for details and ticket information.

Smithsonian"New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music" opened this past Saturday and will be on display until April 22 in Founders' Hall on Southern Wesleyan's campus in Central. The Pickens County Museum, Birchwood Center and Humanities Council SC are collaborating with Southern Wesleyan to bring the exhibit to the university’s campus. Coinciding with the exhibit are numerous events that celebrate our musical heritage, including a "Roots of Southern Gospel" concert this Saturday at 7 p.m. at Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center. Kennedy publishes paper
Dr. Ken Kennedy, assistant professor of computer science, published his paper "A Self-Stabilizing Algorithm for Optimally Efficient Sets in Graphs" in Information Processing Letters, a journal devoted to the rapid publication of short contributions to information processing.


New for Fall 2012 - Christian Worship minor
The Christian worship minor is designed to complement majors within the Division of Fine Arts and the Division of Religion, but is open to all students. The goals of this minor are to provide musical training, a biblical theology of worship and practical training with multimedia production. Read more >>


Donate a Yummy Dessert--then come eat it!
The editors of this year’s literary magazine, “The Vaguest Notion” will host an event in theCupcakesCampus Life Center on March 15 at 6:30 p.m., featuring music, games and a dessert bar with a "decorate your own cupcake and cookie" station, among many other items. Faculty, staff and students are all welcome at this event and invited to bring their kids so they can have fun decorating. Donations of desserts or dessert ingredients, such as cake mix, cookie mix, frosting or sprinkles are needed. Also needed is a coffee maker that will serve a large amount of people. Tickets are $4 in advance and $5 at the door (kids are free!) and all proceeds go towards printing the magazine. To buy a ticket, or donate any of the above items, contact Erin Washington at ewashington@swu.edu. Please bring all baked goods and to Erin's office in the library by March 15 at 4 p.m.


Fundraiser successful
Team India wants to say a special “thanks” to everyone who helped make their valentine sales and bake sale a success. A total of $643 was raised from the combined event totals, giving each girl more than $80 toward her trip. Follow the team as they prepare to depart in May at swuindia.blogspot.com.
