Kristin Otley's Top 10 List from the Montessori Gala

Top Ten Ways  to tell that your child attends MSBG:

10.   You are eating dinner and they tell you that you really should not eat dessert until you have had your main meal.

9.     They start giving you choices: “Mom you have a choice you can take me to McDonald’s for lunch or for dinner; it’s your choice”

8.     They ask you to speak pianissimo because they are trying to read in the other room.

7.     Even though they can barely say the word pedometer, they wonder how many steps they walked that day.

6.     They start sending happy thoughts for your trip before you even leave!

5.     Your child is obsessed with peace signs!

4.     Your child knows more Spanish words than you in kindergarten and you were in Spanish National Honor Society!

3.     When they bring home the art to remember packet you assume the copy in the packet is the sample because the drawing is so amazing there is no way that a 6 year old drew it.

2.      Instead of saying that they are going to school they refer to it as going to work.

And the number one way:

  1. You take your five year old child to the circus and instead of being amazed at the motorcycles jumping through the rings of fire they say, “That’s not really a very safe choice!”
Thank you to all our donors, attendees and supporters. It was a great night. We raised over $10,500 for the building and maintenance fund which FUELS the FLAME for our children's education.

Staff Spotlight

“Miss Jennifer” Sigurdson
Early Childhood (3-6 year old)
Teacher

Jennifer is a Bowling Green "townie" and is the proud mother of three daughters. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and she has experience working with students of all learning styles and special needs.  She has been at MSBG for five years and this is her second year as a teacher in the East classroom. She is currently in the process of pursuing her American Montessori Society training in Adrian, Michigan.  For seventeen weekends this school year, Jennifer spends her time in training sessions and well as spending a great deal of time writing, creating materials and lessons, and learning the vast scope and sequence to the Montessori curriculum. Jennifer states, “My favorite Montessori materials are the maps. I think it’s wonderful how the students first use them as puzzles and then gradually they learn the names of many of the countries as well as information about the climate, plants and animals.”

Chess News

The Montessori School of Bowling Green won 1st Place last Saturday at the 2012 Sylvania Winter Classic Chess Tournament.  MSBG topped a field of 80 contestants from representing 12 other elementary and junior high schools.

Even though the Montessori only had 4 players attend the event, MSBG scored a whopping 20 points in the 6 round tournament- more than any other team in the history of the Montessori School of Bowling Green.  So successful were these four K-2 players, that they ended having to play each other in the 4th round because all 4 were undefeated up to that point.

Representing the Montessori Chess Club were 2nd graders Isabelle Broman, Yeowoon Jung and Brian Li, while 5 year old Jaewoon Jung rounded out the MSBG players.  All four players ended up tying for 1st Place with identical records of 5-1 in the K-2 Section.  Based on tie-breaks, Broman was awarded 1st Place, while Yeowwon finished 3rd Place, Brian won 4th Place and Jaewoon finished in 5th Place.  A Toledo player also finished 5-1 and was awarded in 2nd Place.
