Prayer Points and Information Snippets # 1

Dear *|PARISH|*,

Here are the week 1 prayer points and a little more information on each project for the 2012 Anglican Missions Lenten Appeal. Please feel free to print this out, put it on your noticeboard, use it in newsletters or forward this email to your parishoners.

Apologies for the lateness this week, we had a few website dramas.

Don't want emails from us? Just hit reply and tell us or click the un-subscribe button at the bottom of this email. (If you are not a mission motivator or contact person for your parish anymore, let us know!) This will mean that you won't receive regular emails from Anglican Missions including Mission Action, news, stories, important dates, regular prayer points, and information on our projects during the Lenten Appeal and beyond.

Blessings,
The Team at Anglican Missions

Jerusalem and the Middle East

Donations to the Jerusalem and the Middle East Lenten Project for 2012 will be split evenly between the Ras Morbat Clinic and Creating a Future for Children in Egypt.

Ras Morbat Clinic in Aden, Yemen

Funds raised for the Ras Morbat Clinic will assist with the ongoing running costs of the Clinic as it provides healthcare in Aden for those who cannot afford it.

The Eye Department at Ras Morbat welcomes patients from all over Yemen, and offers visual acuity, refraction, examination by ophthalmologists and laser or surgical treatment as required. The Eye Department also runs camps, for example an annual trip to Mocha, to treat patients in regions where there are no eye clinics. Image: Dr Rashida performs an eye examination at the Ras Morbat Clinic.

Pray For the staff of the Eye Department at Ras Morbat as they continue to provide eye care and clear vision to the people of Yemen.

Creating a Future for Children in Egypt

This project will equip a new nursery. It will open in Suez and will help disadvantaged families with providing good care and education for their children before they begin primary school. This nursery and several others are run by EpiscoCare, the development arm of the Episcopal / Anglican Diocese of Egypt with North Africa and the Horn of Africa.

Around 50,000 people live in the area of Arab il-Maamal in Suez. Children from the poorest families often suffer from malnutrition and do not have access to medical treatment or decent clothing. There is a high percentage of illiteracy among adults as well as children, as the schools and the educational level in the area is very poor. After the donation of a flat from a member of the Church of the Saviour, a local community development centre with a kindergarten is being developed in Suez to serve the people in the area.

Pray For the work of EpiscoCare in developing these kindergartens throughout Egypt to provide high quality care and affordable education for families with financial difficulties, helping their children to fulfil their potential and develop their skills.

Landless People in Polynesia

Donations to the Landless People Lenten Project for 2012 will be split between Nadawa and Namara.

Namara

The Diocese of Polynesia is helping the 10 Namara families to move to a new settlement – Tacirua East – but needs financial assistance to secure the new leases.

With the development of Tacirua East well underway, the move of the Namara families is planned for 2013. However there is still a great need for financial assistance as the total amount required has yet to be reached.

Pray For those involved in this project who work for the Fijian Housing Authority, especially those in senior management who are overseeing the allocation of sections.

Unite

Donations to the Unite Lenten Project for 2012 will be used to support all of the NZCMS Mission Partners. You can support a particular Mission Partner on a regular basis by contacting Tessa and Anglican Missions.

Unite is about connecting our Church and its Mission Partners. Our Church through the NZ Church Missionary Society and Anglican Missions supports over 40 Mission Partners around the worlds in fields such as health, education, evangelism & bible translation, and we’ve been doing that for many years. In the last 10 months we’ve seen unprecedented growth of people in our church exploring the call to Overseas Mission.

Jo Rogers

Jo is working in Dodoma, Tanzania as a ESOL Teacher at the Dodoma Language Institute based at Msalato Theological College. Initially Jo hadn’t considered becoming a Mission Partner, but after her children left home she knew she wanted to travel and experience working in a different environment. It was at a Mission service at her church in Hamilton that she knew this was the work she wanted to do. Almost immediately she applied to NZCMS and it wasn’t long before she found herself in Africa.

Anne & Anthony McCormick

Anne & Anthony are currently working at Christian Care for Cambodia, a Christian NGO which undertakes humanitarian work in rural and urban Cambodia. They work alongside their community, encouraging, discipling and offering skills training.

Pray For Jo in Tanzania and Anne & Anthony in Cambodia as they continue their journeys in overseas mission on behalf of the Church in New Zealand, Aotearoa and Polynesia.
