Opens Trials
Played in the excellent Lilleshall surroundings on the weekend of April 21/22 the Touch Nationals will be the first time England Touch has attempted to select an England squad in such a way. As previously stated, participation in a regional side at the National Championships is the primary method of being considered for selection for an Open England side. However, if you have a legitimate reason for not being involved in a regional side (e.g. injury or working abroad during the trialling and preparation period) but you would like to be considered for a national squad please contact Mike@englandtouch.org.uk.

As a result of this contact you may be invited to attend the Masters’ trial on the 28th of April in Nottingham to demonstrate your ability. Please note that  for players wishing to play for an Open side, those who have played at the nationals will be preferred to later triallists at final selection if players are of similar ability

Invitation to the England Nationals Tournament
The England Touch Association is delighted to invite your respective referees to come and help officiate at the inaugural England Nationals Tournament, in Lilleshall, to be held on the 21st and 22nd April 2012. Please can you distribute this out to all your referees.

This is a two day tournament that is being used as the selection trials for the England National Team to compete at the Euro's in September in Italy. Each of the newly formed regions within England will bring their strongest men's and women's teams to compete against each other and to compete for a place in the Euro's squad.

As the European Touch Championships are taking place in September, this will be an ideal preparation event for all referees, especially for referees looking to go to Treviso, with a very high standard of touch expected from the regional mens and womens teams.  England Touch are looking to use this weekend as a high performance camp for referees.

This event is open to all referees (and referee coaches) whether they are looking to attend the European Touch Championships or not.

Referees will receive a contribution towards their accommodation and travel costs and where possible we will help out with local transport and travel options to and from the venue.  Further information on the tournament will be made availabe in due course.

Please let me (refs@englandtouch.org.uk) know as soon as possible, if you would like to attend.  If you have any questions or queries or want any further information, do not hesitate to get in contact.

We are really looking forward to hearing from you and seeing you at the Nationals.

Round up of events

Chargers Invitational

A great way to kick start the 2012 season. Donned 'The Biggest Club Touch Tournament in Europe", it had everything you could ask for from a Touch comp: Great high level Touch, men's, women's and mixed divisions, drop-offs aplenty, fantastic refereeing, an army of physios, free bacon butties, international contingents, a bit of sunshine and of course... an after party!

Thanks, results and much, much more can be found on the Chargers Website:  Read the full story here

SGM

Due to a number of outstanding items from the 2011 AGM, the ETA held a short SGM (special general meeting) after the Manchester Chargers tournament on Saturday 25th Feb.

The meeting was very productive and allowed us to share ideas/concerns whilst producing solutions too. The minutes from this meeting will be on the website soon.

Disciplinary and Advisory Panel

England Touch have formed a ‘Disciplinary and Advisory Panel’ for any future matters which might arise. Currently squads and teams are very player led often with a variety of behaviours, rules and activities which are non ETA sanctioned and often passing un-challenged.

To this end, we have put together a panel of senior England players / committee members, so that any serious issues can be resolved independently. We are trying to move England Touch away from it’s traditional roots of being a group in which no-one answers to anyone. Any decisions made by the panel about players, coaches, squads etc will be supported by ETA as a whole through the proper channels.

We will be formulating the disciplinary process more formally very soon.
