Bicycle Instructor Training
Incredible Opportunity:  Apply immediately.  Bike Newport is sponsoring the training of LAB-certified bicycle instructors to ensure that we have expert advisors regarding safe cycling and sharing of the road. This four-day intensive training takes place on March 24, March 30, March 31 and April 1 and results in nationally-recognizd LCI (League Certified Instructor) status. Bike To Work Day is May 18
Thanks to local sponsors AARP-RI and NEWPORT BICYCLE!  We're gearing up for our second annual Bike to Work Day Newport, including:
  • Commuter Breakfast
  • Mid-day Press Conference with Partners
  • Afternoon Community Bike Ride
  • Evening BIKE FAIR
This year, all activities will take place in our historic city center: Washington Square
Newport employers are encouraged to make plans to encourage employees to join in the effort to replace their cars with bicycles for personal and community health and well-being.  "Park and Ride" locations will be announced to support longer distance commuters.  More information coming soon! The Bike Garage
The Bike Garage is a collaborative effort of Bike Newport and our local schools - located at the Newport Career and Technical Center at Rogers HS and run by Steve Heath, Bike Newport VP and Met School Catalyst.  Bikes, wheels, ideas and progress are rolling at The Bike Garage as new programs in bike safety, bike maintenance and bike distribution are taking shape.  Read about it here
Legislative Update: Cautious Optimism from the Senate
Thank you for your calls and emails to our representatives in Washington! After several long weeks of intense work from advocates around the country, the Cardin-Cochran Amendment has been accepted as part of the base Senate transportation bill, MAP-21. Read more about it here.
National Bike Summit, March 20-22
Thanks to Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and the Cabot Community Tour, Bike Newport's President Bari George will attend the annual National Bike Summit in Washington, DC, March 20-22.  In addition to the conference programs, Bike Newport will be part of the RI delegation to Capitol Hill, along with other RI constituents from RI Bicycle Coalition, Narragansett Bay Wheelmen, East Coast Greenway Alliance and Raleigh Bicycles.
