Congratulations to the PA program!

The Physician Assistant program moves from success to success

Accreditation status received, check. 100 per cent pass rate on the Physician Assistant National Certification Exam on the first attempt, check. Employment secured by 100 per cent of inaugural class graduates, check.

In terms of success measures, the Physician Assistant degree program (BScPA) has met them all. The PA program is based in the DFCM and delivered by the Consortium of PA Education, a collaboration among U of T, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and The Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences.

The program’s reach and impact are province-wide. Watch this two-minute Google Earth video showing the geographic distribution of the PA learners, their clinical training sites and their graduate employment locations.

Congratulations to the Physician Assistant program! The DFCM is proud you are part of the family.

DFMC launches an iPhone app for prospective residents

During the Family Medicine residency candidate interviews this year prospective residents were given a unique way to learn about the multiple training streams and sites offered by DFCM. An  iPhone app was developed and made available by the Postgraduate Education Program team to and in addition to textual site information, it contains maps, a ‘Talk to us’ feature and several short video interviews with senior DFCM faculty such as the Departmental Chair, Dr. Lynn Wilson and the Postgraduate Education Director, Dr. Karl Iglar.

Feedback from the candidates who downloaded the app remarked on its ease of navigation and the useful content, comprehensive yet concise. Many said they had not yet seen anything similar from other FM training programs. The Faculty of Medicine’s Undergraduate Medical Education office intends to build on the DFCM’s successful app template and create their own app for prospective medical students.

To date, 350 FamilyMedUT app downloads have been recorded. As expected, the majority come from Canada but a number have been from countries around the world such as China, the United States, Russia, Lebanon, Brazil, Australia, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Norway and Germany.

Anyone can download the free FamilyMedUT app from the Apple iTunes Store. Search FamilyMedUT. Android and Blackberry versions are in development.
