Film Screenings in April About Hawaiian Women Buddhists

You are invited to a special premiere film screening of Nā Wāhine Buda Kiakahi: The Legacy of Hawaiian Women Buddhists! There are two screenings to choose from:
Wed., April 9, 6:00 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.
Sat., April 12, 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
both at Hawai‘i Betsuin. Free!
The film presents Mary Mikahala Robinson Foster and features Nola Nahulu, Puanani Burgess, Norma Wong, and Manu Aluli Meyer. Also with George Tanabe and Joshlyn Sand. Narration by Puakea Nogelmeier.
The film runs about 40 minutes. Q&A with videographer/director Eleni Gill Avendano and others will follow the screening. See the event web page.
Choralfest is Sept. 20-21—Want to Sing?
 If you are interested in participating in Choralfest 2025, please email Ruby Nagao, our Hawaii Betsuin contact for Choralfest 2025 registration, at choralfest2025@yahoo.com and she will respond. To ensure that the final registration list and all payments are ready to submit by the HHMH deadline of April 30, please email Ruby well in advance of April 22. YBICSE: July 1-9, 2025 (4/25 application deadline)
 YBICSE, or Young Buddhist International Cultural Study Exchange, is an educational trip to Japan which offers young Buddhists from North America, Hawaii, Canada, and South America the unique opportunity to experience Japanese culture while cultivating awareness.
Five delegates from Hawaii will be selected for the July 1-9, 2025 YBICSE trip and will be accompanied by Rev. Satoshi Tomioka of Puna Hongwanji. The application deadline is April 25, 2025. Applicants need to be high school students at the time of application.

Hongwanji Spring Bazaar is March 30: Huge rummage and clothing sale, food, crafts and taiko drumming to kick it off! Food and crafts/books will be open until 1 p.m. Rummage sale ends at 12 p.m. All six volumes of our famous COOKBOOKS will be available!
Sushi and Chicken Orders: You can pre-order Maki Sushi by Shiro’s and Ige’s ($8.00 per roll) and Hoku BBQ Chicken (3 lbs., $18.00 per chicken) to pick up at the bazaar. Order online on our event web page or use a printable order form with cash or check. Pre-orders are due by March 23.
