Academic
Exam Assistance - Volunteers Needed
We are seeking volunteers to assist students who require support with reading and/or writing during their mid-year exams for Years 8-13, taking place in the last week of May.
We are fortunate to have dedicated parents and grandparents who have previously volunteered as reader/writers and found it to be a rewarding experience, however, we need more volunteers to ensure we are not relying too heavily on them.
Your support can make a significant difference in helping our students perform to the best of their abilities. No specialist subject knowledge is required, just a willingness to help. Please note that all volunteers must undergo a police vetting process as part of our school policy. Even if you’re available for just one exam session, your help would be greatly appreciated!
For more information or to volunteer, please contact Dorota Bade

Year 8 Museum Trip
Our Year 8 students recently had the opportunity to visit the Auckland Museum as part of their current curriculum. The visit proved to be both informative and engaging, offering valuable learning experiences for the students. It was a memorable day for everyone involved, including the dedicated parent helpers who generously volunteered their time to support the excursion.

Pastoral Care
Health Notices
Head Lice are very common and easily spread in a school environment. We ask that if you notice symptoms that your son might have head lice, please check and treat immediately. You can find information about treatment options on the Ministry of Health website. Thank you for your co-operation.
Tuckshop Update
We are pleased to advise that we have a new Tuckshop provider Tuckr who have started this week operating on a limited menu. Tuckr is committed to unlock the full potential of the school’s tuck shop, turning it into a vibrant hub where delicious and healthy meals are made. Their menu options are tailored to the needs of the school and boast the tastiest and healthiest items, including freshly made pitas, burgers, rice dishes, sushi, hot meals, breakfast brioches, snacks, drinks, and much more.
From Wednesday 26 March their extended menu will take effect, and to make ordering easy you can plan ahead and order up to 2 weeks in advance through their online portal: tuckr.nz/order-now
Blazers and Winter Uniform from Term 2
With the cooler weather, Blazers are required to be worn again on Formal Uniform days. Please note that we will change over to Winter Uniform from the start of Term 2. Please can we remind parents of expectations around appearance and uniform standards. Your support in this regard is most appreciated.
Bus Behaviour
At assembly this week students were further reminded about expected behaviour on public transport when travelling to and from school. All students require an AT Hop card, are to tag on and tag off; to give up their seat to a member of the public and to be respectful to all those around them. Thank you to all of those who do the right thing. Students who behave in an unsafe or unacceptable manner risk losing their place on the bus.
Vehicle Safety
For safety reasons, again we respectfully ask that parents observe the speed limits in the vicinity of school, and that they do not park on yellow lines or u-turn in heavy traffic outside of our school gates. If collecting your son from school, please pick him up outside the school gates. All students must use the pedestrian crossings at all times. Your cooperation in this regard is most appreciated.
Student Safety
We were informed earlier this week that students from Glendowie College were confronted by individuals demanding their bags and phones. Further to our notification on Wednesday, we want to assure you and our wider community that the Police have been contacted, and we have been advised that patrols in the area will be increased. The safety of our students remains our priority. We ask parents to remind their sons to stay vigilant, walk home in pairs or groups where possible, and contact the Police if they feel unsafe.
Social Media Presentation
This week Constable Gordon Campbell spoke to our Year 7 and 8 students about social media use and staying safe online. Students were reminded of appropriate behaviour and key messages included:
- ensuring settings were on private
- never giving out personal details
- to dispose of “friends” that you don’t actually know
- check and research social media sites before joining up and follow age guidelines
It is also important to delete friends who participate in bullying by taking the “Don’t be a Bystander” stance. For more information and resources please click here. Constable Gordon returns next week to speak to Year 9, 10 and 13 students.

Cricket Match Report: Sacred Heart 1st XI vs. Macleans College 1st XI
Sacred Heart won the toss and elected to bat on a flat wicket. Sam Fraser set the tone with 41 off 45 deliveries, building a 40-run stand for the second wicket with Tom Lees before he lost his wicket with the score on 67. Lees continued, partnering with Cooper Blake (30 off 36) for another quick fire 40-run stand before Blake lost his wicket with the score at 125. Lees continued the momentum and reached his maiden 1st XI half-century, ultimately scoring 63 off 94 before he was also dismissed. The lower order added 21 runs before Sacred was bowled out, setting Macleans a run chase of 204.
Macleans batting effort started strong, reaching 55 before losing their first wicket to Tom Lees. 20 runs later Macleans suffered a rapid collapse which saw 4 wickets fall with the score at just 77, with two wickets falling in one over to Tom Lees. With Macleans at 77/5, a middle order 79-run partnership dragged Macleans to 156/5 and despite two quick wickets to Tom White later in the innings, the Macleans lower order sealed victory for the home team, passing the Sacred score with three wickets in hand.
While the result didn’t go Sacred Heart’s way, the team showed clear progress, with contributions from both batters and bowlers. The performance displayed great promise as the team continues to develop and build momentum. For more match reports click here
