Hi all!
There is a lot going on right now, from celebrating Wisconsin's Supreme Court win to Cory Booker's amazing 25-hour Senate soliloquy, but right now we are going to focus on what's next. And what's next is the national day of action THIS SATURDAY, with hundreds of events planned all over the country. Please join in!
UPDATES AND INFORMATION ON THIS SATURDAY'S BOSTON HANDS OFF PROTEST
We have spent time scrambling and brainstorming ideas to find the best travel options to Boston given MBTA’s upcoming maintenance. We understand our original plan may not be ideal for many members, so we’d like to offer a few alternatives.
Regardless of how you plan to travel, please join us in front of the Park Street Church (1 Park St, Boston, MA 02108) at 10:30 a.m. so we can rally as a group.
Shannon will be wearing an orange jacket and will have an Indivisible Rise sign. We will also have Rise-branded buttons for everyone to wear. If you’d like to join our Signal group chat for quick updates, you can do so here: Rise Signal Group. (Learn more about Signal below.)
Alternative Travel Recommendations:
- Contact us to host or join a carpool. Reach out to us and we will help coordinate carpools via the Caroster app. To sign up as a driver, select the yellow "+ Add Trip" button. Drivers can use apps like ParkBoston, SpotHero, ParkWhiz, or Parkopedia to find parking. You can contact Becc O'Brien with questions or for help coordinating.
- Drive and take the MBTA. There are several options to drive to another MBTA station and take the train in to avoid parking. Find an MBTA map here.
- Stick to the original plan and take the T from the Newburyport train station at 9:07 a.m. Shuttle buses will replace train service from Swampscott to North Station, which will cause delays. Given the changes, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that you will arrive by 11 a.m., so you may want to consider taking an earlier train. You will be responsible for traveling to the Common and for your return trip to Newburyport.
Whatever you decide, please let us know!
No matter how you arrive, please be prepared, safe, and ready to go! Here are a few links on protest safety (for you and your phone):
If folks are looking for other locations, you can always check the Hands Off! website and enter your zip code.
A NOTE:
Why would we use Signal?
Signal is an end-to-end encrypted app that allows us to create a group chat without displaying each member’s phone number. Traditional messaging systems like text message or WhatsApp would make members' phone numbers visible to the entire group. Additionally, we will be able to erase the chat and its messages after the protest. We promise to not add any reporters to the chat.
That's it for now. Don't forget to breathe.
Onward.
