Dear Friends,
This week at our Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors’ meeting, I successfully introduced a motion to establish a Unified Permitting Authority within the Altadena One-Stop Recovery Permitting Center. This motion–which passed unanimously–will help pick up the pace of rebuilding in Altadena by streamlining and expediting the approval of rebuilding permits.
The newly approved Unified Permitting Authority will be empowered to make final permitting decisions across departmental lines, resolve regulatory conflicts in real time, and eliminate bottlenecks that have delayed recovery efforts. Key County departments involved in approving rebuilding permits include Regional Planning, Public Works, Los Angeles County Fire and Public Health. These departments will work together in support of the new Unified Permitting Authority to deliver a smoother and more productive rebuilding approval process.
We will continue to rise, rebuild, and recover—and you have my commitment that I’ll be there every step of the way.
Best wishes,

Kathryn Barger
Chair of the Board
Supervisor, Fifth District

Meet our pets of the week!
Our dynamic duo are a special pair that includes Midnight, a loyal and cuddly ten-month-old black and tan female German Shepherd mix full of love and paws full of energy.
We're also featuring Treasure, a vibrant one and a half year old, female, brown and white Pit Bull. Treasure is just bursting with love and playful energy, and through no fault of her own, she finds herself seeking a new family after her owner lost their home.
Spring is the perfect time to bring home a new pet because the County has two great promotions going on! Throughout the entire month of April, adoption fees are waived for both dogs and cats at the Palmdale Animal Care Center thanks to a generous grant! At all of our care centers, adoption fees are waived for senior pets older than 6 years old throughout April.
If you'd like to open your heart and home to a new pet, consider adopting them from the Palmdale Animal Care Center, which is open for drop-ins Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Last weekend, I joined mayors and city leaders from across the County, including many in the Fifth District, for a briefing hosted by Mayor Karen Bass and LA28 to explore ways to get every part of our diverse and beautiful region engaged in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, Super Bowl, and the Olympics and Paralympic Games. This is a wonderful opportunity to show off the very best of Los Angeles County, as we welcome athletes and fans from all over the world.

Eliot Arts Magnet was among the schools devastated by the Eaton Fire, and their sister school Altadena Arts Magnet was also displaced amid the fire. In addition to being without classroom space, the schools are also without an auditorium to rehearse and perform their annual spring musical. In an effort to uplift students’ spirits and provide them with a sense of normalcy in the midst of the loss they’ve experienced, Center Theatre Group generously offered to partner with the Pasadena Unified School District and Pasadena Playhouse to host Shrek The Musical JR. at the iconic Ahmanson Theatre at The Music Center in Downtown Los Angeles. The special one-night-only performance will take place on Friday, April 18 at 7 p.m. and will bring a fun night of entertainment for families performed by the incredible students in the cast. Admission for the performance is free with reservations. Optional donations from the performance will go toward rebuilding arts programs for students impacted by the Eaton Fire.
