Novica 2012 / 1: Generalna skupščina REMA
Letošnji festival pričnemo 22. junija v Brežicah s francoskim baletom Ludvika XIII. Ballet de la Merlaison (1635). Pogajanja z lokalnimi skupnostmi še potekajo, izbor umetnikov in obseg programa še nista dokončno potrjena, zato bom več predstavil v naslednjih novicah.
Ob teh srečanjih so bile organizirane različne konference in razprave na teme: novi obiskovalci, umetniško programiranje, komunikacija v stari glasbi, profesionalna integracija mladih ansamblov, promocija stare glasbe in portugalska stara glasba.
Sedem nacionalnih odborov (Francija, Italija, Španija/Portugalska, Nordijske in baltske države, jugovzhodna Evropa, Beneluks in Velika Britanija, Višegrajska skupina), ki so bili organizirani kot uspešnejši odgovor izzivom na nacionalnih ravneh, je svoje delo opravljalo neodvisno od mreže REMA, svoje delo so REMA predstavili junija 2011 v Anconi.
Pomladi 2011 so nacionalni odbori potrdili osem ansamblov za Showcase: Ludovice Ensemble (Portugalska), Les Ombres (Francija), Ensemble Symblema (Hrvaška), Ensemble Meridiana (Velika Britanija, Švica), Duo BLU (Italija), Scherzi Musicali (Belgija), Woodpeckers Recorder Quartet (Švedska) in Qvinta Essençia (Španija). Njihove izvedbe sta snemala portugalski radio RDP 2 in Mezzo.

Newsletter 2012 / 1: General assembly REMA
This year's festival is scheduled to begin on June 22nd in Brežice with a French ballet by Louis XIII. – Ballet de la Merlaison (1635). Negotiations with the local communities are still on-going; also the selection of artists and the extent of the programme have yet to be confirmed, so I will present more exact information in the following newsletters. Since I have just returned from the General assembly REMA (European Early Music Network www.rema-eemn.net), let me write a few words about this.
The assembly was held on Saturday, 14th April, 2012, in the Alsatian town of Ribeauvillé. The Board of directors and Executive committee met the day before to go over the materials and prepositions prepared for the assembly. This year's General assembly has confirmed the previous assembly's minute (Paris, 15. 4. 2011) and the business and financial report for the year 2011.
In 2011 REMA organised three meetings of its members: in April in Paris, France, in June in Ancona, Italy (host: festival Cantar Lontano) and in November in Porto, Portugal (host: Casa da Musica). During these meetings, different conferences and discussions were held on the themes: new visitors, artistic programming, communication in early music, professional integration of young music ensembles, promotion of early music and Portuguese early music.
The Seven National Committees (France, Italy, Spain/Portugal, Nordic and Baltic countries, South-eastern Europe, the Benelux and Great Britain, The Visegrád Group), which were organised as a more successful response to the challenges at national levels, performed their work independently from the REMA network; they presented their work to REMA in June 2011, in Ancona.
In spring 2011 the National Committees confirmed eight music ensembles for Showcase: Ludovice Ensemble (Portugal), Les Ombres (France), Ensemble Symblema (Croatia), Ensemble Meridiana (Great Britain, Switzerland), Duo BLU (Italy), Scherzi Musicali (Belguim), Woodpeckers Recorder Quartet (Sweden) and Qvinta Essençia (Spain). The Ensemble Symblema was a consensual suggestion made by our (South-eastern Europe) committee (Britvić, Marinčič, Ramovš); Symblema will also perform at this year's Seviqc festival in Brežice. The Showcase was held on 5th November in Porto; each ensemble presented a 30 minute programme to REMA members and the local audience. The ensembles also met with the REMA members at informal meetings. Their performances were recorded by the Portuguese radio RDP 2 and Mezzo.
In spring 2011 REMA confirmed its new graphic image (logo, colours, design) and renovated web page. The latter was devised also as a better tool for members and the local audiences and was envisioned to contribute to a higher reputation of REMA.
Including three networks, REMA had 63 members from 19 countries in 2011. The same year, REMA was an active member of EFA (European Festivals Association), PEARLE (Performing Arts Employers Association League Europe), EMC (European Music Council), NORDEM (Nordic Early Music Federation) and CEFEMA (Central European Festivals of Early Music Association). REMA was an active member of two structured dialogue platforms between the European Commission and civil society: ACP (Access to Culture Platform) and PIE (Platform for Intercultural Europe).
Its enterprise value was well over 110.000 EUR, from this 30.000 EUR was contributed by the French Ministry of Culture, 40.000 by the European Commission, a little over 34.000 came from membership fees, and a little under 6.000 was given by Casa da Musica for funding of the Showcase.
The General Assembly decided about a change of membership fees and some alterations to the statute, presented the meeting places of 2013, went through the possible meetings in 2014 and presented a new method of selecting the ensembles to perform at the Showcase in March 2013 (Marseille).
The items addressed at an afternoon REMA meeting were: presentation of the festivals, an early music smartphone application, web page use for REMA members, presentation of Work groups as a new form of REMA activity and prepositions for new REMA projects. This was followed by the performance Le Petit Concert Baroque and wine tasting at Cave de Ribeauvillé.
On Sunday a conference was held by the name »Early Music in Germany and German speaking countries: today and tomorrow«, which was moderated by Ursula Adamski-Störmer from Bavarian radio.
Slovenia has got two members in REMA (alongside myself also Domen Marinčič with the Radovljica Festival), we have a seat in the Board of Directors and we coordinate the South European National Committee, therefore we are very well recognised in this elite society of European early music festivals. This is also evident in the forming of our programmes at a time of economic crisis, where it is possible for us to include in the Seviqc Brežice those programmes which have already been endorsed by other public sources, or coproductions we otherwise would not have got very easily.
