Description
Ashwagandha is a sanskrit word, made of “ashwa” meaning horse and “gandha” meaning smell. Smelling of horse, is not really a literal translation, rather this herb has a potency of giving “horse power”, endurance and vitality. A prized ingredient in Ayurvedic medicine, Ashwagandha, has the same reigning power in Ayurveda as ginseng does within TCM. Ashwagandha is more calming sedative then stimulant with restorative, tonic and adaptogen properties, helping body to cope with stress and exhaustion.
All parts of the plant are utilized for healing preparations, however its roots hold the highest value.
History
The plant has over 4,000 years of history in India and had been praised in arabic Unani medicine, Siddha medical traditions and was known in ancient Egypt. One of the central ingredient in Ayurveda, Ashwagandha is an anti-aging tonic and aphrodisiac, prescribed as a preventive remedy, but also used widely for the elderly and weak to regain vigour and strength.

Usage
