Imagine a life without a place to call home. An empty stomach. Or even worse, an empty soul. Dreams dashed. Little hope. Hard to imagine? This is the sad reality for several hundreds of men, women, and children in Knoxville every night.
But there is hope. Knox Area Rescue Ministries (KARM) is sowing seeds of hope. KARM serves on average 1,000 meals per day to the homeless and others in crisis, and its emergency and residential shelters are home to over 400 homeless people each night. They are meeting needs, restoring lives and making a difference on a daily basis. Click here for some amazing stories of recovery and restoration.
Still, there are others in need. That is where we can make a difference. This Friday, April 13, join Team TLC at the World's Fair Park as we support KARM at its inaugural KARM Camp Out, a unique event designed to raise awareness about homelessness. Even if you cannot camp out all night with us, you can enjoy the festivities while you learn more about the good work being done for the homeless in our community. Here are a few ways to get involved:

Go all out! Join our team of campers for only $25 (kids 12 and under are free). Walk in the shoes of a homeless person for one night.

Attend the evening event for only $15 at the gate and enjoy the music & festivities. Learn more below.

Donate to Team TLC. We have raised $1,500 already! Every gift counts! Today, we launch Team TLC's matching gift initiative, Twin Challenge. The challenge starts now and runs through Friday at noon. Details below.

Donate your gently used shoes for the homeless as part of our TLC for the Sole {Soul} Shoe Drive. Shoes may delivered at the office, Speaker Series, or World's Fair Park.
Even if just one more life was transformed, that would make it all worthwhile.

TLC IN ACTION
TLC for the Sole{Soul}
Introducing our 'TLC for the Sole {Soul}' Shoe Drive, Kids' Art T-shirt Project, Message Board and Photobooth for KARM Camp Out
We're excited about this. Can you tell? If we could walk a mile in a homeless person's shoes, we believe that we would have more love and compassion toward them. And so our "TLC for the Sole {Soul}" theme has taken off with several initiatives to help demonstrate TLC at KARM Camp Out. We are asking that you help us collect gently used shoes for our TLC for the Sole Shoe Drive. Also, we will be doing some fun activities at the Camp Out: Kids' Art T-shirt Project ($3 or 2/$5), TLC Photobooth ($2), and a TLC for the {Soul} Message Board for people to write words of encouragement to KARM's residents. Here's a sneek peek at Team TLC's box-homes for KARM Camp Out. Last week, @perspectivearch and @thelegacycentre spent the day painting. We had to keep telling ourselves that paint-perfection is next to impossible on cardboard boxes, but, honestly, don't you think they turned out great?! KARM is having a tent/box decorating contest on Friday. How do you think we'll do? Tell us what you think on twitter or facebook and help us paint the town with TLC...

EQUIPMENT NEED
We Need a Canopy
Please help! We need help locating a big canopy tent - something like the one pictured above (approximately 8' or 10' sq.) for our campsite activities at KARM Camp Out on Friday. If you have one or know somebody who does, please let us know as soon as possible. We just need to borrow it for the night. The only catch is that we cannot use any spikes or stakes in the ground at the World's Fair Park so it will need to be free-standing. Just let us know when and where to pick it up from you. WHAT IS KARM CAMP OUT?
Fun, Fun, Fun!
Grab your gear and join us at the World's Fair Park for KARM Camp Out on Friday night! KARM is offering a special $15 rate at the gate for people who want to come for the evening but do not want to stay overnight....or you can still join our team of campers. Look for our bright green shirts! Don't forget to bring some extra bucks for food, lawn chairs, sleeping bags, boxes/tents (no spikes/stakes), etc. Also, collect your shoes for TLC's shoe drive and any unused hygiene products for West Park Baptist's project. EVENT SCHEDULE
What to Expect
Whether you choose to camp out or just come over for the evening festivities, there is something for everybody! Registration runs from 5-8 p.m. and is only $15 at the gate (kids 12 & under are free). From 5-7 p.m. there will be children's activities and other family friendly activities as well as some great food options from Abundant Life Kitchens. The program will begin at 7 p.m. with live music, appearances by the mayor and UT Basketball Team. It's going to be a lot of fun! Find out more about the schedule and what you should bring here...
