Duck Town Council to Meet Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.
The Duck Town Council will meet on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Duck Meeting Hall, 1200 Duck Road. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. For the agenda,

A Google Map listing Duck's restaurants and eateries, along with locations and websites, is now online.  Special thanks to the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau for helping to create this for our use. 


2012 Events Season Announced

Join us as we celebrate the Town’s 10-Year Anniversary with a host of fun-filled, family-friendly events. All events, except for the parade, will be held at the Duck Town Park, 1200 Duck Road. Bring a blanket or lawn chair for events on the Town Green; these items are not necessary for the amphitheater as it has built-in seating. Beach umbrellas and tents are not permitted with the Town Park. The Park and all facilities are smoke-free. All events are free. Admission to amphitheater shows is either ticketed or on a first-come, first-serve basis and there is no guarantee of admittance if the venue is full due to seating capacity limits. The 2012 schedule is follows.  (Subject to change.)

4th of July Parade
Duck’s annual Parade is on Wednesday, July 4 at 9:00 a.m. The parade begins at the crest of the hill on Scarborough Lane, continues down Ocean Way, and then Christopher Drive. Arrive early to get the best spot on the route. No part of the parade is on Duck Road. Afterwards, join us at the Town Park for music by Ruth Wyand, awarding of parade trophies, and refreshments.


“Duck Unplugged”
“Duck Unplugged” will be held on Tuesdays from July 10 through July 31 at 6:00 p.m. in the amphitheater; gates to open at 5:30 p.m.

Summer Music Series
Enjoy the Duck Town Green with family and friends while taking in the sounds of some of the area’s best known musical acts. Duck’s Summer Music Series is on Thursday evenings from June 28 through August 9 at 6:00 p.m.
• June 28 – Aquarium
• July 5 – The Fantastic Shakers
• July 12 – The Fuzz Band Celebrating the DVFD’s 30th Anniversary
• July 19 – The Crowd
• July 26 – Adrian Crutchfield
• August 2 – The Kirsten Thien Band
• August 9 – The Little Kings


Interactive Theater and Toy Time
Tuesday mornings feature a variety of family-oriented shows which start at 10:00 a.m. at the amphitheater; gates set to open at 9:30 a.m. Kitty Hawk Kites is underwriting the July 3, 17, 24, and August 7 shows; while Dockside ‘n Duck Seafood Market is sponsoring the July 17 and 31 Puppet Shows.

In conjunction with the performances, Kitty Hawk Kites will be conducting Toy Time which begins at 9:15 a.m. on the Town Green. A variety of toys and games will be available for children and families who are attending the show to enjoy.

• July 3 – Snakes Alive! Presented by North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island
• July 10 – A Puppet Show and Puppet Band
• July 17 – Plants, Critters, and Bugs – an Interactive Tale Presented by The Elizabethan Gardens
• July 24 – Plants, Critters, and Bugs – an Interactive Tale Presented by The Elizabethan Gardens (Participants will also be able to seed a plant to take home.)
• July 31 – A Puppet Show and Puppet Band
• August 7 – Totally Turtles Presented by North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island


Family Magic Show
Witness incredible illusions, mind-bending magic, comedy, and audience participation the entire family will love -- live on stage by OBXtreme Magic. Magic shows are at 10:00 a.m. at the amphitheater on the following Wednesdays: June 27, July 11, July 18, July 25, August 1, and August 8. (There will be no show on July 4.) Gates set to open at 9:30 a.m.

The shows are underwritten by Kellogg's Supply and The Cottage Shop. Although this event is free, tickets will be required for entry as seating in the amphitheater is limited. All attendees (of any age) must possess a ticket to gain entry to the performance. The show will start promptly at 10:00 a.m.; and any latecomers possessing tickets may be denied access, or may have to wait for a break in the show, as not to disturb the performers or fellow attendees. Tickets will be available the week of the show at Kellogg’s Supply and The Cottage Shop, 1201 Duck Road. Get your tickets early as these shows are in high demand. No tickets are available at the venue the day of the show.


Children’s Story Time
Bring the children for story time sponsored by Duck’s two book stores: Duck’s Cottage and Island Book Store. Story time is in the amphitheater at 10:00 a.m. on Thursdays from July 5 through August 9. Story time is for children between the ages of 3 and 7. Children attending must be accompanied by an adult.




Dare County Comprehensive Transportation Plan Study Open Houses Scheduled
The North Carolina Department of Transportation and Albermarle Rural Planning Organization are holding a set of three open house meetings to present information about the Dare County Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP).  The purpose of these open houses is to gather input on transportation topics to assist local, regional, and state officials to identify and address areas for future improvements in Dare County's transportation system. 

The open houses are open to the public and all Dare County residents and visitors are encouraged to attend.  Attendees may drop in at any time as no formal presentation will be given.  Additional information on the Dare County CTP is available by clicking here.

Meetings are set for Monday, April 16, 2012 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Kill Devil Hills Municipal Meeting Room, 102 Town Hall Drive, Kill Devil Hills;  Tuesday, April 17, 2012 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Building, 23186 Myrna Peters Road, Rodanthe; and Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Dare County Administrative Building, 954 Marshall C. Collins Drive, Manteo.



Duck Jazz Festival Artists Announced
The 6th Annual Duck Jazz Festival will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2012 on the Duck Town Green beginning at 11:00 a.m., with gates set to open at 10:00 a.m.  The festival is a free, all-day event.  Duck Jazz Festival information is on our website at duckjazz.com and on Facebook and Twitter at Duck Jazz Festival.  Currently scheduled to perform: (Performance times  to be announced in late spring.)

Soundside Boardwalk Extension Project Underway
Construction on the soundside boardwalk southern extension has begun.  The southern extension will extend the boardwalk from the Duck Town Park south to Wings near Christopher Drive.  For a boardwalk map, click here and for information on the Duck Town Park and Boardwalk visit our website.  Barring any unforeseen delays, it is expected to be completed by mid May.  Pictures are posted on our Facebook page and can be viewed, by clicking here.

Duck Jazz Festival - Sunday, October 7. 2012
The 6th Annual Duck Jazz Festival is set for Sunday, October 7, 2012.  For details, visit duckjazz.com.

 10-Year Celebration

The Town of Duck will be unveiling artwork and historical memorabilia assembled by the Wall Decor Committee on Tuesday, May 2, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. in the Duck Municipal Building, 1200 Duck Road, prior to the Council Meeting.  There will be a short ceremony followed by a reception to commemorate the Town's 10-Year Anniversary of incorporation.  More details will be posted soon.
