Softball Smarts Tips #128:

How to Prepare for Ultimate Game Day Success?

It all comes down to game day performance, doesn't it? And for your athlete to excel on game day she needs to be exceptionally prepared.  As we all know fastpitch softball is an extremely difficult game to master, one that can serve up a steady dose of adversity. That being said, your athlete needs to allocate sufficient time for both physical and mental preparation.

Here are a list of the things your athlete can and must do to be optimally prepared to succeed on game day:

1. Always practice with a purpose, with intensity and focus.

2. Have a Plan:  meaning what part(s) of her game does she want to work on during the game.

3. Start getting plenty of rest, eating right and adequately hydrating at least two days prior to game day.

4. Start her game day prep upon waking by "seeing" her success in great detail.

5. Increase focus and intensity during pre-game warm ups. Continue to "see" and "expect" success.

6. Use the game as a learning opportunity. Pay attention and stay aware of all the details of the game to learn from. Look for any edge you can get to master your game.

7. Dedicate 15-30 minutes each day to work on mental and physical preparation. If your athlete want to get faster jump rope, climb stairs, do agility drills for just 5-15 minutes.

Greatness in any sport is promised to no one. Your athlete needs to exert the mental and physical effort necessary to prepare herself for optimal game day success.
