Did you know?

Freedom’s Hill Church, the oldest Wesleyan church in the South and an active center for the Underground Railroad, was moved in 2000 to Southern Wesleyan University’s campus in Central. It was originally built in the Snow Camp community of what is now Alamance County, N.C. and dedicated in March 1848.

Driving Range Coming to SWURange

Dr. Todd Voss, foreground, shares with members of Southern Wesleyan University’s board of visitors plans for the university’s new golf driving and practice range while pointing out features on the facility’s site. The addition of the new facility  is seen as a "hole-in-one" that will benefit the university's athletic program and attract visitors to Central. Central's city council approved $20,000 from the Hospitality Fund as part of a partnership with the university. Chris Williams, Southern Wesleyan’s athletic director, estimates the facility will cost approximately $65,000 – partly funded through partnerships with local businesses as well as Southern Wesleyan alumni.  Read More >>

Southern Wesleyan names Peters new VP for Enrollment Management
Southern Wesleyan University named Chad Peters the new vice president for enrollment management. Peters is currently the associate vice president for enrollment management at Indiana Wesleyan University, where he has led efforts to increase enrollment in various degree programs and streamlined communications efforts with prospective students with enhancements that included the establishment of an internal call center.

Peters also served as director of admissions at Southern Wesleyan University from 2003-2008. Before that, he was assistant director of admissions and also an admissions counselor at Southern Wesleyan. Prior to that, he served as an assistant to the vice president for enrollment management and coach of the Warriors men’s and women’s cross country teams.

Dr. Todd Voss, Southern Wesleyan University president, is enthusiastic about Peters’ return to Southern Wesleyan.

“Chad’s love of SWU, and his understanding of this campus, will allow him to step into leadership quickly and provide incredible support and clarification. He is a person of utmost integrity, quiet strength, amazing drive and deep conviction,” Voss said.

Peters received a bachelor of science in business administration and economics from Indiana Wesleyan University and a master of science in management from Southern Wesleyan.

Designer/Songwriter
As a graphic designer, Ryan Nichols’ work is typically seen rather than heard, but a Christian song he recently published reveals his musical side. His composition, titled “Your Grace,” was recently published by the Wilds Christian Association, Inc. Nichols was a counselor at the Wilds camp when he approached Mac Lynch, a friend who is the music director, asking him if he could use the song.  Lynch wrote lyrics for the song. According to Nichols, the song is reflective and has a traditional flavor.
“God did all the work. Hopefully I will continue to write songs,” Nichols said. “Your Grace” will appear in a songbook published by the Wilds, which will be made available to churches and schools. For details about the Wilds, go to www.wilds.org.
