One Day Women's Retreat!

Heart Centered Sexuality Retreat

Facilitated by Ami Opal, ND and Julie Jeske, MS
  • Does it feel like there is a disconnect between your body and your mind?
  • Is it hard for you to ask for what you want or receive pleasure?
  • Is shame getting in the way of enjoying sex or pleasure?
This is a one-day retreat for women who want to align their body, mind and spirit with their sexuality.  Julie works with clients from a mind perspective and Ami reaches their bodies.  Together they will help women embrace who they are and eliminate obstacles to pleasure. The workshop is limited to 10 women and takes place in a beautiful garden setting.  We will incorporate visualization, ritual, journaling, educational information about sexuality and your body and therapeutic exercises.

Date: Sunday June 10th 10am – 6pm

Releasing Shame - Embracing Pleasure

This is a 4 week group.  We will spend two weeks talking about shame, the way it impacts us and ways to release it.  Then for two weeks we will focus on the power of pleasure, how it enriches our lives and ways to cultivate more pleasure.  The cost is $120 for all four sessions.  To reserve your spot, contact me.

How Do You Feel About Your Body?

It is easy to point out all of your best qualities?  Do you speak about your body with love and pride?  Is it easy to name the things you would like to change about your body?  Is it easy to picture all of the ways your body isn’t working for you?  Do you find yourself comparing your body to others?  Do you love your body?

Last month I got a call to be interviewed for a KGW segment about body image.  In particular, it was a follow up on an article about women who were most judgmental about their bodies while in a dressing room trying on swimsuits.  I had about 30 minutes to change and get ready for the shoot…and I was 24 ½ weeks pregnant!

Working with people around sex and intimacy and shame and vulnerability, body image often comes up!  I was a little surprised to see it not only come up in the subject for a TV segment, but also come up for me.  What was I going to wear?  How would my belly look on TV?

How you feel about your body can change over time.  It can change with age, with weight (loss or gain), with your mood, with your confidence level, with how you feel about your life and more.  You might even be surprised by the way that life events (pregnancy, injury, grief) can impact how you move in the world and how you see your body.  When I talk about “loving” your body, it doesn’t mean you can’t still have some things you wish were different.  It DOES mean accepting your body (it’s beauty and it’s limitations).  It means owning the body you have.  Yes, you can try to work out or eat better or wear something more flattering.  But you can do all of those things without speaking badly about your body, without hating your body.  If you do come to accept and love your body (which I hope you do!) there may still be days where that comes more easily for you.  Just as life ebbs and flows…how you feel about your body might too.

If you are struggling with loving and accepting your body, I invite you to try to make some small shifts.  If you look in the mirror and see something you hate, then I recommend you also find something you love (and if that is too hard, then find something you can at least tolerate).  Begin to speak about your body the way you would with a loving friend.  Are you saying mean things about your body?  Do you call yourself fat or ugly?  Would you say the same thing to a friend????  Please be gentle with yourself.  Speak kindly about your body (if you find it hard to speak about your appearance then notice all of the ways your body moves or exhibits strength).  Tough love won’t make you feel better about your body, it will only hurt you.  Berating your body will only make you feel worse about yourself.  If you can’t accept your own love (and loving words) it will be hard to accept others’ as well!
