It's time for homemade pie and healing donkey hugs
Like Time for pie and donkeys! on Facebook

A mini donkey named Pino is having his 5th annual Pino Pie Party on June 17 to raise money and bring
awareness to old /needy barnyard animals. The little donkey’s global fans mail him vintage aprons,
he sells them at the event and donates to his favorite sanctuaries – New Moon Goat Farm [WA]
Sanctuary One [OR] and Lavender Dreams Donkey Rescue [WA]. The farm’s adopted donkeys, goats
and a pig are from these places. People come from as far away as NYC, Iowa, and Kentucky to share
donkey hugs and pie. The farm's lavender and Katherine's art are also sold to help maintain the farm's
many adopted barnyard creatures.

It all started with a broken heart and evolved into a cherry pie sealed with love.

See more and directions ot the farm here.

Apifera's animal and land work together to for healing and sustenance. People nurture the old farm,
improve the fields, plant trees and fruit, and that land reciprocates with for food and healing for all
creatures. The people that come to Pie Day always leave with a full stomach and heart. Katherine makes
all the pie and a small entry donation of $5 is requested [pie is her gift]. Aprons, her art and Apifera
lavender are also for sale.

We graciously request you leave your lovely pets safe at home.

A huge loss at Apifera

It is never easy to let go and say good bye to our friends, even the elderly who we know are living
their final days. Old Man Guinnias was the first old animal, the first old goat, the first adoptee to
come to Apifera. He was fifteen when he arrived from New Moon Goat Sanctuary and I never
expected him to live as long as he did. He was nearing twenty. What a hole there is in the barnyard.
He was my gate greeter, my wobbly old man, my muse. I miss him terribly. But he left so much
with me, and also won the hearts of so many. How many old goats do you know that get animal
crackers in the mail - all the way from the East coast. On what would be his final day at Apifera,
a Sunday, he fell over and over - his crippled legs had weakened over the months and he couldn't
right himself when he fell, requiring me to rescue him. I knew I had to call the vet on Monday,
and that Sunday was a very sad, but special day for him and me. We left nothing unsaid, never did.
But come Monday morning, I found him there in his stall, surrounded by his misfits. He'd gone on
his own way. I can't help but feel he did that to help me. You can read his memorial at the blog.

Writings of dog love

Katherine's Raggedy Aprons. Katherine makes aprons using cotton scrap and vintage aprons as starters, then embellishes them with collaged donkey art. These are now posted on Etsy as she finishes them. Pino's Apron Gallery showcases the vintage aprons donated year round to help raise money at his annnual Pino Pie Day.
