Volunteer UGCY team members will be dedicated to realising the vision of UGCY through executing a national event, promoting, establishing, developing and maintaining the public profile/image of UGCY. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of an exciting and inspirational initiative. If you enjoy music, meeting new people and being part of a team that strives to be world class, then this could be the opportunity for you.

“University Gospel Choir of the Year” is an exciting and inspirational initiative, sponsored in 2011 by the likes of UBS Investment Bank and having worked with the national TV phenomenon – The X Factor. Backed by the Mayor of London and the Minister for Culture Communications and the Creative Industries – Ed Vaizey, UGCY is a voluntary organisation providing an unprecedented platform for University Gospel Choirs across the UK to develop and showcase their musical abilities. Moreover, UGCY an annual competition that aims to bring together talented and diverse individuals through music, encouraging them to strive for excellent and exceed their own limitations, whilst inspiring the young and old in all walks of life.

The first annual UGCY event, held in aid of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, launched in July 2011 at the 1000 seater  Sadler's Wells' - Peacock Theatre in the heart of London’s west end. The 2011 event consisted of over 300 finalists from 8 different Universities. 2011 saw Royal Holloway University of London Gospel Choir take the crown as University Gospel Choir of the Year and won the opportunity to perform at the world famous Royal Albert Hall as part of the Christmas Carols with the Stars 2011 event where the finalist sung amongst many well known celebrities.

This year, our objectives are bigger and better than last year and we are growing fast. We want to give you the opportunity to join a revolution in the university and wider Gospel scene. Above all, our vision is to encourage and empower University students to maintain/set up their own gospel choirs in all of the UK’s higher education institutions – contributing to developing a community spirit amongst students.

Please note that all team members are volunteers, they are not paid positions.


We are looking for people to come on board in the following areas to fulfill the below roles:

Events & Projects Co-ordinator (Events Team) 
The Events and Projects Co-ordinator will be responsible for helping to implement activities contributing to the overall University Gospel Choir of the Year event. The role will include:
  • Project planning, tracking and execution
  • Logistical planning/scheduling
  • External relations i.e.dealing with the media, public bodies, service providers and suppliers
  • Assisting with marketing initiatives such as brand and communication management
  • Liaising with sponsors, partners and endorsers
  • Guest and VIP management (event day)
  • Assisting with stage management and/or audio/visual management (event day)
     
Projects Co-ordinator (Marketing Team)
The Projects Coordinator will be responsible for helping to oversee/implement projects within both our online and offline marketing strategies, including but not limited to PR activities. 

Social Media Co-ordinator (Marketing Team)
Social Media is a key tool in modern Digital Marketing strategies. The social media coordinator will be responsible for organising and implementing UGCY updates and news via our social media channels  - i.e. Facebook and Twitter. This will include regular postings with the latest information relating to the event and milestones we reach, publicising competitions and maintaining a general buzz around our Facebook and Twitter pages. The ideal candidate will be a social media savvy, enthusiastic person, organised and creative with a good set of writing skills.

Digital Marketing Co-ordinator (Marketing Team)
The digital marketing coordinator will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of our online marketing activities outside of social media. This will include helping to keep the UGCY blog updated, regular mail shots (emails) to our Database of subscribers and any online research required for UGCY projects. The ideal person for this role will have strong writing skills, be creative, organised and have a passion for all things digital.

Graphics Designer 
The Graphics Designer will be responsible for owning and executing the branding and design elements for UGCY, this includes but is not limited to: Flyer Designs, T-shirt Designs, Campaign branding and Marketing Collateral designs.

Your role will require you to liaise with the marketing and events team and you will be pivotal to helping UGCY realise their vision.

This is a perfect role for an established or an up and coming designer who wishes to broaden their experience and portfolio.

Web Admin/Designer 
The web designer will complement the current marketing team and events team through implementation of web features (content updates) and optimization (such as CMS) coordinated largely through www.ugcy.co.uk and our other websites. You will be responsible for both the front and back end.

You must have a strong grasp of HTML and Flash. Skills in PHP and CMS is also desirable but not mandatory.

This is a perfect role for an established or an up and coming Web Administrator/designer who wishes to broaden their experience and portfolio.
