Calling All Goal Diggers!

Thank You for Signing Up!

Before we dive in, I just want to extend my deepest gratitude to you for signing up to be apart of a growing network of supportive dream chasers. As a fellow (or wannabe) GOAL Digger, we all know that despite our best efforts to sometimes get to the Promised Land on our own, knowing someone has your back makes the journey that much easier.

Through this amazing group and BritniDanielle.com (coming soon!), I'll share my personal tips and tricks for overhauling your life and pursuing your passion. I'll also share many of the resources and words of wisdom from those who have been down the road we are attempting to conquer.

And don’t worry, I won’t blow up your inbox (I certainly don’t have that kind of time!), but you can expect to receive an email or two from me each week loaded with inspiration sayings, feel-good motivators, and practical advice on getting over the hump and going after your dreams.

If you ever have a question, tip, or interesting thing you think our group should check out, please let me know and I will share it (oh, and spread the words to your friends). We’re in this together!

Read: Thinking About Quitting Your Job?

Six months ago I quit my “cushy” teaching job and decided to branch out on my own and pursue writing full-time. Although it was scary as hell, one book, How to Make A Living Without a Job, helped me see that living without a regular “job” was possible, yes, even in this economy.

So many of you may be feeling like I was—completely stuck and looking for an escape hatch. Last year I wrote an article detailing how I broke out of the day job box, check it out. It’s a good place to start.

5 Tips to Quitting Your Job & Still Making A Living

Think: Stop Trying to Be Perfect

Perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor, the enemy of the people. It will keep you cramped and insane your whole life, and it is the main obstacle between you and a shitty first draft. I think perfectionism is based on the obsessive belief that if you run carefully enough, hitting each stepping-stone just right, you won’t have to die. The truth is that you will die anyway and that a lot of people who aren’t even looking at their feet are going to do a whole lot better than you, and have a lot more fun while they’re doing it.” -Anne Lamott

Do: Set A Reasonable Goal

Let’s face it, chasing your dreams can be a daunting and completely frightening task. Thinking about all of the things you WOULD do if only you could get XYZ to be just so can freak anybody out. So, don’t even think about it.

Thinking about your ULTIMATE GOAL can paralyze you to inaction.  Instead, focus on one thing you want to accomplish within the next month that’ll set you on the path to reaching your goals, then break it up into smaller, more manageable pieces. For example, if your goal is to finally get healthy and lose weight, instead of saying you want to drop 60lbs. which can seem nearly impossible, aim to lose 2lbs. a week for the next 6 months. It’s easier to wrap your head around.

Over the next few days think about how you can break your ULTIMATE GOAL into smaller chunks. Write them down, and follow through.
