Montessori Moment: National Join Hands Day

The Bowling Green Arbor Troup, sponsored by the Gleaner Life Insurance Society, aims to serve the community by working closely with local organizations to assist in projects that make a difference. Joy Collins, Special Representative for the Arbor Troup, contacted the Montessori School to see what needs the school had. The school’s focus on environmental education has led to several new projects, including the idea to plant a community garden.

The Arbor Troup decided to select the Montessori School’s community garden as their project for this year’s National Join Hands Day.

The National Join Hands day is a national day of service when youth and adults work together to plan and implement project that benefit their local communities. National Join Hands Day gives Americans the opportunity to reach out to people they don’t know, to connect generations and to develop new relationships.

This Saturday, May 5, adults and youth will be clearing a garden bed, filling it with soil donated from All Seasons Landscape, and preparing the garden area for planting. The oldest students at the school have been growing a variety of vegetables from seed in the classrooms. When the plants are ready, they will be planted outside in the community garden.

The Arbor Troup also donated a large compost bin and two large rain barrels they purchased from the Wood, Soil and Water Conservation group to be used by the students at the school. Students will collect their food scraps to be put in the composter and then used for soil for the garden. Students will also use the rain they collect in the rain barrels to water the plants in the garden.

This National Join Hands Day project will take place at the Montessori School of BG, 515 Sand Ridge Road, from 12noon-2pm this Saturday, May 5. Community members of all ages are welcome to attend. Call Jessica Hover to sign up today. 419.352.4203, Jessica@Montessorischoolbg.org.

GL Scrip can work for You!

In these times, every family could use some extra help to pay their children’s tuition.  GL Scrip is an excellent tool to provide this assistance.  The program allows you to buy gift cards from most of your favorite stores, restaurants, and service establishments and pays a percent of your purchase back to the school in your name that will be applied to your tuition.    All you have to do is shop and dine in the places you normally frequent and use the gift cards as your payment.  Earning free money doesn’t get much easier than that!
Here are some examples of the many rebates available at GL Scrip:
  •  Bob Evans 9.74%
  •  Elder Beerman 9.74% (includes a 2% bonus until the end of April)
  •  Home Depot 3.74%
  •  Children’s Place 11.74%
  •  Land’s End 15.74%
  •  AND MANY MORE!!!!!
All ordering is done online.  Orders are submitted every Monday morning at 8:30 and your cards are available to pick up in the front office by 9am that same Thursday.  There are also many e-cards available immediately that can be printed at home.  These are found under the ScripNow! feature on the website.  To get started, login to www.shopwithscrip.com or contact Alisa Suelzer at (419)354-8400 or e-mail Alisa.Suelzer@gmail.com to get detailed instructions.
The registration code for MSBG is 9C4F114515148. Note that registration in the online Presto Pay program is required to pay for gift cards.

It’s Kroger

Re-Enrollment
Time!

For all of you that receive tuition rebates through your Kroger Plus card, please note that you must RE-ENROLL each card during the month of April in order to continue benefits without interruption for the coming year.  The Kroger Community Rewards program year runs from May to May.  At the end of each year, Kroger requires that each Kroger Plus member re-establish their link to MSBG or benefits will no longer be paid.  Kroger has a designated pool of money that is given each quarter to those that are enrolled.  Because it takes many members awhile to login and re-enroll, it really benefits you to login right away and receive benefits in the 1st quarter.  The 1st quarter has historically been the largest payout per participant.  So don’t delay – re-enroll today!!!

Instructions to re-enroll your Kroger Plus Card:
1.        Go to www.kroger.com
2.       Click the sign in button on the banner near the top of the screen and enter login info
3.       Click on My Account
4.       Click on Community Rewards and select “Edit Community Rewards Information”
5.       For the 1st option, type in “80235” and hit “Search”
6.       For the 2nd item, select “Montessori School of Bowling Green”
7.       Save the changes at the bottom
8.       Enjoy your tuition rebates for another year!

If you have any questions, contact Alisa.Suelzer@gmail.com.  Also please let Alisa know if you register any new cards so that she is sure to credit your account for the rebates received.

Board Nominations

We are actively seeking recommendations for potential new members of our MSBG Board of Directors. Parents and friends of MSBG are very helpful in reaching out to potential volunteers so we are seeking your recommendations. Generally we are looking for individuals who are involved in the community or who have experience with nonprofits. We are especially looking for someone with fundraising and development expertise. Mostly we want individuals who will be passionate about MSBG! Please let us know of any individuals in the Bowling Green area who you would recommend. They do not have to be directly connected to MSBG. If you have any questions, please contact the school office. Click HERE for the form.
