Holiday Workshops
July School Holidays
We have three workshops running on Tuesday July 10.
Screenprinting from 10am-12pm $50
Screenprinting from 12:30pm-2:30pm $50
Book in now as placements are already filling and it's only week 2!
We have a special FREE invitation only workshop at 3pm-4pm on Tuesday July 10
for those children who have been attending Nest Studio classes for over a year and who's parents have supported the studio by paying fees upfront and on time.

I am really looking forward to sharing my painting your own lampshade workshop that was published in April, in a NEW book titled Hand in Hand (Lark publishing USA 2012). We have a copy of the book (not available in Australia yet) for you to look through in the studio ....
It's not often we are allowed to paint on the furniture!!

What have we been up to this term?
This term we will be working with clay most weeks, which is so much fun.... we have already seen lots of cute little mice, birds, cats, igloos, nests and a Gruffalo as well as perfectly smooth and hollow balls (not that easy.. you should try it!).
The children will be working on very important sculpture building skills over the first 4-5 weeks in preperation for creating a final piece which needs to be made extremely well in order to survive the kiln firing process at 1300 degrees!
Working with clay can be a challenge for most, so the children are gaining skills in resilliance, problem solving and being confident little people... so important don't you think?!
It is also important for the children to keep up their visual communication skills whilst working in 3D, so we are continuing with drawing practice each week.... you may have noticed your child coming home with sketches of the sculpture they created in class. After each session in the first half of term the children's work is put back into the clay bucket, however I have also been photographing each childs work every week, so please don't hesitate to ask for a peak at what they have been up to.

SALA Festival
(South Australian Living Artists Festival)
Nest Studio will be participating in the SALA Festival for the 5th year running. We have loved having the children's artwork on display in the shop window in previous exhibitions. It is fantastic to hear all the positive feedback from people visiting Magill Road ... most of them not even realising that children have infact created the work that is on exhibition! I think this is so important for the children to experience... their art not just being displayed in the "adult/real world" but having that opportunity for it to be validated by the adult public (not just mum, dad and granny!). Children are artists!
