MUL and Eurobikers Anniversaries

The 90th anniversary of the Luxembourg Motorcycling Federation (MUL) and the first 10 years of the Eurobiker Luxe mbourg were celebrated on the 24th of May at the Melìa Hotel in Luxembourg with the presence of the Sport Minister, Mr Romain Schneider, the city mayor, Mr Xavier Bettel, and many more national authorities. UEM was represented by its President, who, after congratulating with MUL for the important activity of the past years in favour of motorcycling, addressed all his appreciation to the organisers of the Eurotour, an event particularly important as it shows how great is the solidarity spirit among motorcyclists for people in need and it deliver this message to the whole of Europe. Mr Mazzi gave two commemorative plates to the MUL and Superbiker President, Mr Michel Turk, who took the occasion to present to the audience this year edition of the Eurotour.

2012 Start of the Eurotour

The day after the celebration of the 90 years of MUL and 10 years of Eurobiker Luxembourg started the 10th Eurotour with destination Moscow. After the blessing to all participants and bikes by the archbishop of Luxembourg Jean-Claude Hollerich, the Transportation Minister, Mr Claude Wieseler, and the Russian Ambassador, Mr Alexander Shulgin, started the event giving way to the 90 participants (bikers, passengers and assistance personnel) to this long raid. An initial parade was also included in the middle of a large crowd of curious spectators and fans. This year edition included 7 legs in: Dresden, Varsavia, Kaunas, Riga, Velikiye Luki, Istra, and final destination Moscow in the Red Square for a total of 3.000 Km. In Moscow and in the other cities, the bikers had warm welcome and met schools, orphanages and historical and cultural sites.

Two Countries Cup

The Two Countries Cup was presented on the 8th of June in Misano (Italy). It is a Road Racing European Cup series that registered a good success last year. The event, started initially as a challenge between Italian and Russian riders in the Superstock 600 cc. class, and it was opened this year also to riders of other European countries holding a national licence and not classified in the first three places in the period 2001-11 in the CIV, IDM, CEV, ACU national championships or in the monobrand European Cups events. To each event are allowed only 40 riders, of those there should be at least 10 Russian and 10 Italian riders. A prize of € 10.000 is available for each round and a prize of € 20.000 for the final rankings, and the winner will also get a trophy. Riders with wild card will be also admitted and they could get to the podium, but without receiving points or money prizes. The rounds of the Two Countries Cup will be three to be held during the World Superbike Championship in Misano, Brno and Moscow. Promoter of the Cup will be “YMS Coppa” of the Russian Alexander Yakhmich, a company with a good experience in organising sporting events, while technical and sport rules will be those of UEM. UEM President and “YMS Coppa” Chairman expressed their satisfaction for the agreement that could be renewed in the next years.

Dutch Mototourists in Italy

A new relaunch strategy of mototourism in Europe has been put in place in order to increase the touring activity on the two main axis: North-South and East-West. Starting this objectives, UEM introduced the first Moto Touring Twinning, an initiative that this year twinned the track of Assen (The Netherlands) and the one in Misano (Italy). 20 Dutch bikers coming from Assen reached the 7th of June the city of Modena from where started the “Motor Valley” Tour, organized by the Emilia Romagna Region in collaboration with the UEM touring consultant Mr Giancarlo Pasini. The programme of the Tour included visits to the Ferrari museum in Maranello, to the house of Enzo Ferrari in Modena and to the Lamborghini museum in Sant’Agata Bolognese. Originally, the programme included also a visit of the Ducati museum in Borgo Panigale, but the earthquake in the area suggested prudence and to suspend the visit. The Dutch motorcyclists arrived on Saturday the 9th, together with the Misano mayor, Mr Stefano Giannini, to the track of Misano where they were introduced in a press conference in the Paddock Show of Superbike. The Dutch group, who watched also the SBK race of Sunday the 10th, was also welcomed by UEM General Secretary, Mr Alessandro Sambuco, and received a commemorative plate by a representative of the Santa Monica S.p.a. - Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”. In April of next year, always in occasion of the Superbike event, the Italian motorcyclists coming from Misano will be guest of the Assen track.

Emergency Sport Medicine Course for Event Physicians in San Marino

From the 7th to the 9th of June 2012 it was held in San Marino the 2nd Emergency Sport Medicine Course for Event Physicians organized by UEM in collaboration with the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS), the San Marino Motorcycling Federation (FSM) and Infront Motorsports. The Course included an analysis of the Emergency Medicine procedures in high risk sports and also this year saw the participation of two FIMS doctors as presenters, who already presented in the first edition in Imola in the September of 2011: Dr. David McDonagh and Dr. Johann Egvik. In addition intervened Dr. Giancarlo Di Filippo, Dr. Srecko Margetic and Dr. Guy Melon of the UEM Medical Panel. Greatly appreciated was the presence of the director of the International Medical Commission of FIM, Dr. David McManus, who also participated to the discussion with a scientific report on motorcycle sport. 16 doctors from Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Ireland and Italy participated to the course, whose programme consisted of 16 working hours split in two days. The course ended with a visit to the Misano track in occasion of the San Marino round of the Superbike World Championship, with a visit to the Clinica Mobile headed by Dr. Massimo Corbascio

Healthy People on two wheels

Pio Breddo, the man behind the Club “Healthy People on two wheels”, informed UEM that the group members doubled in one year and reached the significant number of 2300 participants. The Club, which among its members boasts some famous motorcycling champions of the past and of today, is a motorcyclists community that decided to create a Facebook group with the purpose to offer a positive image of those that love to travel and race on two wheels. An original initiative using a modern communication tool to reach a broad audience in the world.
