Global Alliance: AGM outcomes

On 22 May 2012, the COHG Global Alliance's Annual General Meeting was held via teleconference.

With participation from clinical organsations from around the world, a mandate was set by the existing GA partners to guide the future of COHG's production of systematic reviews of oral healthcare.

The key suggestions/outcomes from the AGM were as follows:
* Work towards the completion of prioritised orthodontic reviews;
* Acknowledgement that vast progress has been made in first year of Global Alliance's operation re: prioritised reviews;
* Commitment for GA to invest in methodologist assistance to support clinicians in their roles as authors;
* GA to look at better coordination of guideline production/position papers as a potential remit, by working with guideline development groups (e.g. NICE);
* Commitment for GA to encourage appreciation internationally of the value in undertaking systematic reviews (i.e. ‘their research’ vs. ‘our research’;
* Work collectively with partners to promote GA and ensure sustainable finance;
* Assisting with dissemination of reviews to clinicians;
* Produce overviews of specialty areas of oral health for consumers;
* Produce additional products for priority reviews – i.e. podcasts and journal supplements;
* Produce web pages for website with pages of information for each specialty and more resources online;
* Next remit for prioritised reviews is paediatric dentistry, following same format as orthodontics exercise.

Top tips for authors: Validation reports

Reviews can't be published in The Cochrane Library if they contain errors. Handily for our authors, RevMan is designed to help you find and correct those errors quickly and easily.

Guidance on how to validate your review can be found on page 57 of the RevMan 5.1 User Guide (click to down load your copy here).

You can generate a detailed report of all errors and warnings from within RevMan by going to File > Reports > Validation Report.

The report links every warning and error to the relevant sections needing amendment in your RevMan review file so that you can immediately edit the file. Or alternatively, you can save or print the report to deal with at a later date.

The full list of validation rules used in RevMan and Archie is available here.

Happy 20th anniversary Cochrane collaborators!

The Cochrane Collaboration will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2013, and to celebrate the milestone we are promoting the work conducted by The Cochrane Collaboration (either generally, or in the field of dentistry by COHG) and getting the word out to increase usership and engagement with our reviews across the globe.

We would like our contributors to consider helping us to promote The Cochrane Collaboration's work during 2013; whether you want to use one of our formatted presentations, pre-approved written copy, supporting statements, timelines, branded logos or output graphs - we'll provide the materials you might need to spread the word; the important thing is that we get everyone talking about it!

To gain access to the password-protected prepared material, please email cohg@manchester.ac.uk and tell us how you're planning to promote CC20 and the COHG in 2013.
