JOY!  WHAT MAKES YOU JUMP FOR JOY?
Stop by the
JOY! page and post your answer in 10 words or less.. One of my favourite answers will be chosen every week to be quoted in the weekly newsletter.

WHAT MAKES YOU JUMP FOR JOY?  My favorite answer from the JOY! page this week is from Sally Glover: "Watching 500 dolphins leaping out of the water chasing after oolichans running up the Grenville Channel on the wild British Columbia coast…from a float plane enroute to the Oprah show!!"  WOW! That would certianly make me jump for joy too!

Featured Jumper of the week:

Tony Butler ...  From: the great state of Michigan, in a small town near Ann Arbor. Lives: in Hollywood, California Work: Photographer

About his Art / Work
"I've recently started a photography business here in Hollywood. I've been interested in photography for as long as I can remember. This interest peaked enough to become a profession after studying photography in college. After being exposed to works by Vivian Maier, Diane Arbus, Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, Arthur (Weegee) Fellig, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Frank.

I finally realized what type of photography I was most interested in. That involving people.
I love portraiture. Whether it's constructionist, a creative approach such as fashion, environmental, or candid, this is where I feel I excel. Capturing natural emotion and telling a story is what I strive to do with every photograph I take."

What is your philosophy in life?
"I try my best to improve myself whenever I can. I figure if I keep doing that, I'll feel pretty good in the end."

What inspires you in life?
"Meeting people and hearing their stories. That and photographers whose work I've been exposed to over the years."

What inspires you to want to jump for joy?
"Taking a really great shot."

If you could do anything in the world, what would it be?
"I'd travel the world and photograph it's people. And tell their stories."

And are you presently working towards making that happen?
"Yeah. Slowly but surely... I'd trade all of my teeth for a Nikon D4..."

I took this photo of Tony Jumping with his own camera, and he did the editing on the image.. a true co-creation... and a fun way to collaborate.

For those of you not familiar with the Jump for Joy! Photo Project yet...

My vision is to create an art photo book of 1,000 photos of people jumping for joy around the world and a photography exhibit that showcases a select few of the best JUMPING images. The compilation of joy expressed by a variety of people from around the world is intended to create a unified community of joy, to express the importance of joy in the lives of all people and to remind us that humanity can come together as one through the expression of joy.

I am excited to do more jumping shoots in Los Angeles, please email me at:
info@jumpforjoyphotoproject.com to set up a jumping shoot with me, and/or if you are interested in shoots in other cities...   or have feedback and suggestions about the project I would love to hear from you.
