ECCV Walter Lippmann Memorial Lecture Tonight
In the annual Walter Lippmann Memorial Lecture tonight at the Wheeler Centre, hear former Federal Minister for Finance and Deregulation, Lindsay Tanner argue that while the mechanical effects of immigration on the Australian economy have been debated for decades, little attention has been paid to the economic benefits of diversity. As globalisation gathers momentum, Australia stands to benefit from its diverse population.
This event is now sold out. Follow the lecture on Twitter: #wlmelb
Talking Disability- a community forum on disability in refugee and new communities
ECCV is bringing together settlement and health programs, disability services, refugee and new communities and government departments to improve access, cultural relevance and participation for people with a disability.
People with disabilities from refugee and new and emerging communities are particularly vulnerable, as are their families and carers. The refugee settlement experience has a marked influence upon a person’s ability to access mainstream community, health and disability services in Australia. To improve access to disability services by refugee and new communities, creative and responsive approaches are required.
Date: Wednesday 11 July 2012
Time: 10am to 3pm
Location: Multicultural Hub, 506 Elizabeth St, Melbourne.

Hope in Settlement - Creative Refugee Week Performance a Huge Success
Last week the Ethnic Communities' Council of Victoria hosted a special Refugee Week performance in partnership with Multicultural Arts Victoria and Melbourne Playback Theatre to a full crowd at FortyFive Downstairs Gallery. Hope in Settlement explored the often private journey that refugees make after they arrive in Australia. In a unique performance style, Melbourne Playback actors created an improvised piece based on the stories of the audience members present.
The stories captured the moments of success for migrants and refugees such as; finding housing accommodation, finishing a degree, building a new life in Australia and educating Australians about the plight of many refugees. The Council was grateful for the many audience members who came forward to openly share their story with the audience. MORE
