Dump the Pump Day 

June 21st is National Dump the Pump Day - a day dedicated to encouraging people to leave their cars at home and ride public transportation!  With gas prices at record highs, it's time to save money and use public transportation, through Pierce Transit and Sound Transit.  The latest APTA Transit Savings Report shows that a two person household that downsizes to one car can save, on the average, about $10,000 a year.  Click here to calculate your savings.   

Promoting Biking on Campus

Bike to School Week: While city and transportation employees were planning events for Bike Month to encourage individuals to bike to work, high school students were doing the same on their own campuses.  Bike Club participants at Stadium High School and SOTA (School of the Arts) held Bike to School Month events in May to encourage students to drop their car ride to and from school, and instead, ride their bike.  Read more...

Meet Our New Intern Josh

Please welcome Josh Jorgensen, DOTG summer intern: Josh Jorgensen will be working as the Downtown On the Go Intern this summer.  He is currently an Urban Studies student at the University of Washington Tacoma.  He enjoys cycling, hiking, reading, and he is passionate about the potential sustainable solutions urban environments have to offer.  He has experience interning with the City of Tacoma, as well as teaching students of different age levels on three continents.  Read more... 

PIERCE TRANSIT'S NEW BOUNDARY

This past December the Public Transportation Improvement Conference (PTIC) convened to start the process of changing Pierce Transit's boundary.  The recent reduction in service to outlying areas was the catalyst for the conference as two small cities requested the conference be convened.  The PTIC was comprised of one elected official from each city within Pierce County and met several times over the course of 5 months. 

On March 8, 2012 the conference held a public hearing on a proposed boundary.  After the hearing the conference voted unanimously to approve the new boundary for Pierce Transit.  Read more....

DISCOVER WALK TACOMA

Next walk June 22: Downtown on the Go is half way through the Walk Tacoma series, and so far there have been a record number of participants.  The free walking events travel to different neighborhoods in downtown Tacoma to encourage downtown employees and residents to discover the different walking routes and parks in downtown Tacoma.  Read more...

DOTG AT THE MARKET

Tacoma Farmer's Market with Zipcar: Downtown On the Go will be at the Tacoma Farmer's Market on Broadway between S. 9th & 11th once a month, in May through September.  The Tacoma Farmer's Market is held on Thursdays from 10a.m. - 3p.m.  The market is a great way to connect with people and get the word out about our programs.  Read more...
