The Three Seasons

June 14 through September 2
Janice Laking Gallery

Richard Watts works in Cordova Mines, Ontario, at the very edge of the Canadian Shield. His practice addresses this precarious ecology. With latex and gauze, he lifts "skins" from rock faces, tree trunks, derelict architecture and watercraft. In addition to the surface imprint, the "skins" pick up residual soil, chips, splinters, fibres and paint flecks. Watts shapes, suspends and illuminates these membranes. To learn more click here...

This exhibition highlights select works from an early series entitled Homesteads. Pictured are outpost homes on what at the time remained the frontiers of the  Canadian and American West, resolute amid an unresolved dynasty.

volunteers

MacLaren Volunteer Appreciation Evening, May 31, 2012
Paying Tribute to Our Volunteers

In 2011, our 228 volunteers contributed 4,423 hours of their time to support the MacLaren, an astonishing commitment and one that makes an enormous difference to the Gallery's ability to deliver public programmes, events and exhibitions. On May 31 we had a formal opportunity to show our appreciation at an Ice Cream Social in the Gallery's Carnegie Room where we paid tribute to our volunteers who have given so much to the MacLaren. Congratulations to these volunteers who were presented with pins in recognition of their many years of service: Lily Cadeau, Gary Evans, Kim Kieller, Jennifer O'Neill, Dan Revell, Amy Skinner and Amy Lee Soucie received five-year pins; Jim Fairhead, Jane Falls and Ingi Gould received ten-year pins; and Evelyn Kain, Diane Neal and Mary Jane Sarjeant received fifteen-year pins. We are honoured by your dedication.
