Heritage Foods USA

As supporters of Heritage Foods USA we wanted to take a moment to introduce you to the Heritage Radio Network. HeritageRadioNetwork.org is a non-profit radio station with over 20 weekly shows covering the world of food from the country’s best chefs and food quality issues like pink slime to the intersections of food and music or architecture (check out the great clips on the sidebar including a tribute to the lovely Daphne Zepos who passed recently.) The station broadcasts from two re-purposed shipping containers located in the back of the famous Brooklyn pizzeria, Roberta’s. Started by HFUSA founder Patrick Martins in 2009, the station has almost 3000 episodes archived on its easily searchable website. This spring the station received 501(c)3 non-profit status and we are excited to introduce the Network’s new Executive Director, Erin Fairbanks, who you may remember from last year’s No Goat Left Behind project.

Letter from HeritageRadioNetwork.org
New Executive Director

By Erin Fairbanks

I joined the HeritageRadioNetwork.org team two years ago as host of The Farm Report, and I am thrilled to be stepping into this new role.

In 2005, I met Patrick Martins and began working for Heritage Foods USA making deliveries to restaurants around New York City for the wholesale end of the business. The work was heavy and hot but getting a chance to see some of the world’s greatest kitchens and be part of a real distribution network was an experience I treasure to this day. I remember Patrick talking about starting a radio network then, and it is amazing to see his visions realized today. The HeritageRadioNetwork.org has broadcast almost 3000 shows since the summer of 2009 and we have included a few great clips to give you a sense of the Network.

The HeritageRadioNetwork.org team is growing. Jack Inslee, who's done amazing work running the station since the summer of 2009, will be working to develop the station's content further and has launched a post production division of the network for edited specials and features. Check out his Jack's Pick's. My favorite so far is his piece on "Becoming a Craft Brewery", which includes guns, volcanoes, wort and nitrous oxide! We also brought Joe Galarraga onto the team in the position of Engineer. Joe is a recent graduate of NYU's music technology program.

These changes usher in a new era of opportunities for the Network’s future: new shows, events, partnerships, and an ever-growing ability to shape our country’s relationship with food.

Who Is Erin? In 2005, Erin left the Midwest and her post at Zingerman’s Deli to try her hand at being a line-cook in New York City. She walked into the kitchen of Savoy offering to peel carrots and didn’t leave for two years. Next, she spent time at Gramercy Tavern, initiating their in-house charcuterie program. Then, following her passion for pigs, she moved north where she spent a year at Flying Pigs Farm, directing “Farm Camp at Flying Pigs Farm”. In 2011, she launched “No Goat Left Behind,” a national project of Heritage Foods USA. After completing her graduate degree in Urban Policy Analysis at The New School for Public Engagement she joined the HeritageRadioNetwork.org team as Executive Director in the spring of 2012.
