Walking the Dog for Nutrition

It amazes us at Halton Food for Thought, just what our youth will do to support student nutrition. The following grade 3 students have shown that everyone can make a difference.  Shown above from left are; Grace Fearon (with Wailea),  Eden Onoprijenko (with Jake), Elise Williams (with Raleigh). These young ladies are from Holy Cross, Joseph Gibbons and George Kennedy schools where the girls know all about good nutrition as each of the schools run a healthy snack program. We cannot thank them enough for their efforts to help us ensure all students are well fed and ready to learn! Kudos ladies!

Longo's & Holy Rosary

On Friday June 15, 2012 Holy Rosary Catholic School students had the opportunity to select their favorites from the many shapes size and colours of melons presented at Longo’s ‘Melon Mania ‘event. Longo’s Produce experts were on hand educating classes on the taste, texture, origin and nutritional benefit of a variety of melons. The snack day volunteers were treated to extra help from Longo’s staff in cutting and delivering the scrumptious snack trays to classrooms on this special day. Featured melons included Canary, Santa Claus, Honeydew and the popular Bambino watermelons.  The goal of the event was to introduce students to the wonderful world of melons, and encourage them to eat more of this refreshing summer fruit.  “We are happy to support and give back to such an important program in our community” says Lorraine Buffa, Special Events and Community Relations Specialist at Longo's.

Gala 2012

Our 4th annual Breakfast Gala was a resounding success with more than 290 guests that were treated to delicious culinary treats by our amazing restaurants! We would like to thank everyone involved and in this years themed event 'Team Student Nutrition' it truly takes an amazing team to not only put on an event like this but to support student nutrition throughout the year. A Huge thank you to the superstars that coordinate the program at the school level; the hardworking utility players who are the volunteers that provide the glue that holds our program teams together; our diehard fans from corporations, community service groups and our funders and the school administrative staff who are our tireless coaches, working from the sidelines ensuring the smooth running of the program.

One of our board members wraps it up by saying "Once again I was so proud to be associated with such a strong organization with such strong people. I received a great deal of feedback today with how great the food, raffle and speaker was. Thanks to all for a great morning".
