Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) cordially invites you to Discover Japan through Ukiyo-e, a short seminar where you can learn about the beautiful Ukiyo-e art and be introduced to some of the destinations featured in the prints.

An exhibition of the complete series of Hiroshige’sFifty-three Stations of the Tokaido will be held at the Japan Foundation Sydney Gallery from Friday, 13th July until Thursday, 9th August. This exhibition commemorates the 30th anniversary of sister-city relations between Manly City (NSW) and Taito Ward (Tokyo).

A renowned master of the art of Japanese woodblock prints, Hiroshige has a bold compositional style and his travel prints generally depict travellers along famous routes experiencing the special attractions along the way. 20 of the prints will be accompanied with photos from the Taisho era (1912-1926) and the actual present day locations depicted during the Edo period (1603-1868).

We will introduce some popular stations along the Tokaido Road (between Tokyo and Kyoto), and highlight why they are great tourist spots. Join us and get inspired to plan your next holiday to Japan!
