We need your vote!

We are pleased to announce that we have negotiated an agreement to affiliate with the British Interplanetary Society. This will help to ensure that UKSEDS runs smoothly during periods when the committee is busy with exams and also provide additional administrative support so that we can focus on organising projects and events. To find out more and to vote click here. Voting is only open to members, and will close on 18 September 2012.
New year, new space projects! It’s September, and that means a new academic year will soon be upon us (don’t all cheer at once). Students up and down the country will reluctantly be returning to their studies whilst bright eyed bushy tailed freshers will be turning arriving full of innocence and enthusiasm. For all, hours of toil in pursuit of academic excellence will follow, but fear not - there is relief amongst all this stress, your UKSEDS branch has new projects, trips, talks and events to keep you happy and distracted from that worksheet you still haven’t done. If you’re not yet a member, find your branch at your freshers’ fair. Not sure if your uni has a branch? Check out our Branches page to see if you are represented!

No Branch? No problem! Wishing there was a UKSEDS branch at your university? Wish no longer! Get one set up! We’ll guide you through every step of the process and you’ll be head of your own branch in no time (which just so happens to look very good on your CV). We’ll provide you with posters and leaflets, advice and ideas, and send some of the committee over to help you with events and projects. Contact Phil our membership officer for more info.

A Small Step Backwards

Sadly on August 25th 2012 it was announced that Neil Armstrong the first man to walk on the moon had passed away following complications during surgery.  UKSEDS joins SEDS chapters all over the world in mourning the passing of a great man and one of the true heroes of our time. Armstrong joined the Astronaut corps in 1962 as part of “the New Nine”, the second group of Astronauts selected by NASA. He first flew... Read more

Our Newest Branch

The latest addition to the UKSEDS family is ICSEDS at Imperial College, London. ICSEDS has existed before (under various names), but it folded a few years ago after losing momentum. However, thanks to the efforts of Zoe Versey and Joseph Dudley it's being brought back to life, and we hear the new committee is full of project ideas, and that we hope, if successful, can be implemented by other branches too. If you're at Imperial, then join ICSEDS on Facebook, and look for them at the Freshers' Fair.

EVENTS

From Imagination to Reality Saturday15th September, 9am to 6pm
Man has always had ‘imagination’, and with the bowl of the stars, the Sun and the Moon appearing to revolve above him, ideas for ‘travel to the Heavens’ were amongst the very earliest speculations. The British Interplanetary Society will look at how some of these ideas bore fruit and some – literally – took flight. More details here.
